Author: Mr.Ian Domowitz
Publisher: International Monetary Fund
ISBN: 1451850255
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 32
Book Description
Automated trade execution systems are examined with respect to the degree to which they automate the price discovery process. Seven levels of automation of price discovery are identified, and 47 systems are classified according to these criteria. Systems operating at various levels of automation are compared with respect to age, geographical location, and type of securities traded. Information provided to market participants, and asymmetries of information between traders with direct access to the automated market and outside investors also are examined. It is found, for example, that the degree of asymmetric information increases with the level of automation of price discovery. The potential for trading abuses related to prearranged trading, noncompetitive execution, and trading ahead of customers is analyzed for each level of automation. Certain levels of automation widen the opportunities for trading abuses in some respects, but may narrow them in others.

The Provoked Economy
Author: Fabian Muniesa
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1135090025
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 137
Book Description
Do things such as performance indicators, valuation formulas, consumer tests, stock prices or financial contracts represent an external reality? Or do they rather constitute, in a performative fashion, what they refer to? The Provoked Economy tackles this question from a pragmatist angle, considering economic reality as a ceaselessly provoked reality. It takes the reader through a series of diverse empirical sites – from public administrations to stock exchanges, from investment banks to marketing facilities and business schools – in order to explore what can be seen from such a demanding standpoint. It demonstrates that descriptions of economic objects do actually produce economic objects and that the simulacrum of an economic act is indeed a form of realization. It also shows that provoking economic reality means facing practical tests in which what ought to be economic or not is subject to elaboration and controversy. This book opens paths for empirical investigation in the social sciences, but also for the philosophical renewal of the critique of economic reality. It will be useful for students and scholars in social theory, sociology, anthropology, philosophy and economics.

A Taxonomy of Automated Trade Execution Systems
Author: Mr.Ian Domowitz
Publisher: International Monetary Fund
ISBN: 1451849788
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 50
Book Description
A taxonomy of existing and planned automated trade execution systems in financial markets is provided. Over 50 automated market structures in 16 countries are analyzed. The classification scheme is organized around the principle that such markets consist of an algorithm that performs a trade matching function, together with information display and transmission mechanisms. Automated market structures are classified by ordered sets of trade execution priority rules, trade matching protocols and associated degree of automation of price discovery, and transparency, to include informational asymmetries between classes of market participants. Systematic differences in systems across types of financial instruments, geographical market centers, and over time are analyzed.

Machine Dreams
Author: Philip Mirowski
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521775267
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 674
Book Description
This is the first cross-over book into the history of science written by an historian of economics. It shows how 'history of technology' can be integrated with the history of economic ideas. The analysis combines Cold War history with the history of postwar economics in America and later elsewhere, revealing that the Pax Americana had much to do with abstruse and formal doctrines such as linear programming and game theory. It links the literature on 'cyborg' to economics, an element missing in literature to date. The treatment further calls into question the idea that economics has been immune to postmodern currents, arguing that neoclassical economics has participated in the deconstruction of the integral 'self'. Finally, it argues for an alliance of computational and institutional themes, and challenges the widespread impression that there is nothing else besides American neoclassical economic theory left standing after the demise of Marxism.

Stock Exchange Automation
Author: Jamal Munshi
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351348566
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 108
Book Description
Originally published in 1994, Stock Exchange Automation addresses the pivotal role played by capital markets in the market economics. Capital markets are an essential component of the free market system. The book argues that the capital markets function as an allocator of investable funds among competing uses. The movement toward automated markets requires that we understand how automation changes market behaviour. The book also examines the concept of market microstructure theory, and the implication that some forms of automation should affect prices. Theories of price formation in the specialist based trading system hypothesise that the trading mechanism induces short term price volatility.
