Book Description
It is hard to over emphasize the value of early intervention for children on the spectrum. Although written in a grandparent's voice, the book provides directions for parents and care givers who want to support the child. The child’s future cannot wait for an official diagnosis. Our diagnosis did not arrive until over a year after we had begun early intervention. I believe you should start as soon as you begin having concerns about what you are experiencing with the child. If the child is not on the spectrum, you have still begun good practices to support the child. The book is a compilation of live links and articles to get you started on your journey. For the child's sake, you cannot afford to be behind on knowledge. Early intervention. When it came to learning and understanding what autism is and is not, and how to appropriately support our child; we had to dig out every word on our own. Where do we go? Where do I find this? How do I do that? What does stimming mean? After six years with a lovely grandson on the spectrum, I decided families needed an early intervention a roadmap. With luck, someone smarter than me will write a better one. The links embedded in the book are live so you can go directly to the resources or articles I have cited. I am not a therapist or clinician, but I have spent years accumulating information to help my grandson. Information I wish I had had the day he was diagnosed.

A Parent's Guide to the First Signs and Next Steps Voices from the Spectrum is a compelling collection of personal accounts from people on the autism spectrum and those who care for them, including professionals, friends and family members. The essays in this collection tell of both the positive and negative effects of autism on individuals and families, and pose the question: is a diagnosis on the autism spectrum a puzzle to be solved, or something to be embraced and accepted? The broad scope of this book presents insights into the autism spectrum from many different perspectives - from first-hand accounts of the autistic child's school and childhood experiences to parents' and grandparents' reactions to a diagnosis. A number of chapters written by professionals explain their motivations for working with autistic people and reveal what they have learned from their work and how it has affected their lives. The contributors describe experiences of autism from the mildest to the most severe case, and share their methods of adapting to life on the spectrum. Voices from the Spectrum will appeal to a wide readership of adults and younger people on the autism spectrum, their families and friends, as well as practitioners.

Book Description
What is it like to be part of a very special family, one that revolves around a child’s struggle with autism or a related developmental disorder? In Revolutionary Grandparents, twenty-two grandmothers and grandfathers from the Thinking Moms’ Revolution community share their experience and offer advice to others facing this monumental struggle. Many of these grandparents have moved in with their children and grandchildren to help with daily tasks—all have had to alter their lives drastically. From their front-row seat, they recount their stories. They describe what they observed and felt as their grandchildren regressed into autism, as well as the challenges their families faced as a result. But more importantly, they also write about the progress and the successes of their grandchildren. No two stories are alike in their details, but each one is similar in its honesty, passion, and overwhelming hope. Positivity is the common thread that ties together this unique collection of mini-memoirs.

Book Description
"Autistic and Awesome....A Proven Roadmap for Raising an Autistic Child" is very different from most books about autism, which tend to be very clinical and dry. Authors Connie Howse and her autistic son, Scott, recently featured on PBS's "A Wider World," (The Scott Howse Story") which focuses on people with disabilities, take a different approach. Scott, despite his disability, has an impressive list of accomplishments. Connie, his mother, has been a resourceful, tireless advocate for the autistic and has spent years researching and living with the disorder. Their message of hope is shared in a candid, often humorous, style, with both their triumphs and heartaches. Here's a sample of what you will learn: - A step-by-step, practical guide to finding a doctor, getting the diagnosis, and developing a treatment plan - The latest research on proven therapies, and what to avoid - Low-cost ways to get needed therapies for your child - How to advocate for your child in an IEP (Individualized Educational Planning) meeting - How diet and environmental changes can make a big difference - Practical ways to implement diet and environmental changes - The pros and cons of medications, and some natural alternatives, ,,,,and much more.
