Book Description
The Outback—so called because it is literally out the back of all major cities in Australia—has been the setting of many of Australia’s exported culturally defining stories and cinematography. Cattle stations or ranches in the Outback provide ample settings for tales to be dreamed up and shared through poem, song, and story. Two Years in Australia’s Wild West explores one man’s journey into this famed landscape. In this entertaining memoir, author, D. Alexander Steel shares the often harsh, and sometimes amusing, ways life can take us to unexpected but necessary places. Travel from Adelaide to the extreme and wild western edges of the Australian continent via sometimes humorous, sometimes serious vignettes. This book examines a young man’s coming of age and discusses the myriad ways God intervenes to help us grow into the people we’re meant to become. Through tales of brotherhood, family, and friends, be reminded that we each have a role in God’s grand design; it might just take a bit of wandering to find the way.

Book Description
This book celebrates 75 years of Air Force cadet activity in Australia, 1941-2016. The organisation has had a tremendous impact upon the lives of tens-of-thousands of Australians over our 75 year history. Since 1982 it has enhanced the lives of young women as well as men. The book begins in WWII with the need to pre-train capable and committed "keen lads". Over 30,000 Australian boys were air cadets 1941-1945 with almost 13,000 going on to active service in the war. Air Force cadets survived into peacetime to become an aviation focussed youth development organisation, providing flying training in a military atmosphere with the aim of inspiring cadets to join the RAAF. There are currently over 8,000 Air Force cadets and adult staff around Australia. Aviation centred youth development in a RAAF service environment remains our central focus.

Book Description
Written by leading historian Melanie Oppenheimer, and fully illustrated with a wealth of photographs and other records from the archives of the Australian Red Cross Society, this riveting history marks 100 years of the Red Cross in Australia. This is the story of everyday Australians. It is a history of people helping people across 'generations, united by a common passion and commitment to humanitarian action.' Born at the outbreak of World War I, the Australian Red Cross celebrates its centenary in August 2014, making it one of the oldest and most respected voluntary organisations in Australia. With the help of volunteers across Australia, the Red Cross played a critical role in supporting the men fighting overseas and the families at home during WWI and its aftermath, and later during WWII. Post-WWII it continued to build on this foundation, developing humanitarian services both nationally and internationally. This celebratory book focuses not only on the past but also on the present and future of the Australian Red Cross, showing how the organisation has changed and developed over the last hundred years, from an organisation formed in war to one dealing with the varied demands of the twenty-first century - from social welfare to responding to disasters within Australia such as Cyclone Tracy, the Victorian bushfires and Queensland floods, as well as international crises such as the 2004 tsunami. Fully illustrated with a wealth of photographs and other material from the archives of the Australian Red Cross Society, this is an important record of an Australian icon
