Atmospheric Transmission, Emission and Scattering
Author: Thomas G. Kyle
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080983987
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 301
Book Description
Introduces the physical processes and meteorology required to understand the behaviour of light and radiation in the atmosphere. Integrating the treatment of atmospheric optics from the ultraviolet to the microwave, the book presents a detailed overview, together with discussions, on the associated meteorology and atmospheric composition, which gives the meteorological background necessary to deal with the varying conditions found in the real atmosphere. Mathematical details provide a concise description of results thus allowing readers with a knowledge of meteorology or a single wavelength region to comprehend the transmission, emission and scattering in all wavelength regions. Rayleigh and Mie scattering are covered as well as the aerosol and raindrop distributions found in the atmosphere. Detailed models of the atmosphere and the distribution of trace gases are supplied, and finally a chapter is devoted to standardised software and available data bases.

Theory of Atmospheric Radiative Transfer
Author: Manfred Wendisch
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 3527408363
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 338
Book Description
Aimed at the senior undergraduate and graduate level, this textbook fills the gap between general introductory texts offering little detail and very technical, advanced books written for mathematicians and theorists rather than experimentalists in the field. The result is a concise course in atmospheric radiative processes, tailored for one semester. The authors are accomplished researchers who know how to reach their intended audience and provide here the content needed to understand climate warming and remote sensing for pollution measurement. They also include supplementary reading for planet scientists and problems. Equally suitable reading for geophysicists, physical chemists, astronomers, environmental chemists and spectroscopists. A solutions manual for lecturers will be provided on www.wiley-vch.de/supplements.

Fundamentals of Atmospheric Radiation
Author: Craig F. Bohren
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 3527608370
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 490
Book Description
Meeting the need for teaching material suitable for students of atmospheric science and courses on atmospheric radiation, this textbook covers the fundamentals of emission, absorption, and scattering of electromagnetic radiation from ultraviolet to infrared and beyond. Much of the contents applies to planetary atmosphere, with graded discussions providing a thorough treatment of subjects, including single scattering by particles at different levels of complexity. The discussion of the simple multiple scattering theory introduces concepts in more advanced theories, such that the more complicated two-stream theory allows readers to progress beyond the pile-of-plates theory. The authors are physicists teaching at the largest meteorology department in the US at Penn State. The problems given in the text come from students, colleagues, and correspondents, and the figures designed especially for this book facilitate comprehension. Ideal for advanced undergraduate and graduate students of atmospheric science. * Free solutions manual available for lecturers at www.wiley-vch.de/supplements/

Moderate Spectral Atmospheric Radiance and Transmittance Code (MOSART). Volume 3. Technical Reference Manual
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 354
Book Description
The Moderate Spectral Atmospheric Radiance and Transfer (MOSART) computer program calculates atmospheric transmission and radiation in the ultraviolet region through the microwave spectral regions (0.2 microns to infinity or 0 - 50,000 cm per sec. The spectral resolution is variable from a value of 2 cm per sec. upward in increments of 1 cm per sec. It contains features which have been extracted from the MODTRAN code developed by the Geophysics Division (PL/GPOS) of the Air Force Phillips Laboratory and the APART code developed by Photon Research Associates (PRA). Because of the requirement that MOSART be compatible with various codes used in the SSGM (Strategic Scene Generation Model), the overall structure of this version of MOSART closely follows that of APART. However, MOSART contains all the MODTRAN atmospheric features and is easily used for that code's usual point-to-point calculations. This volume provides the user with information describing the installation of MOSART. The other volumes describe running the code (Vol. II), technical discussion (Vol. III), and the structure of MOSART (Vol. IV). To provide users with on-line assistance, this volume is available in a series of 'html' files that can be viewed using the MOSART Input Builder or the MOSAIC Software. (AN).
