Un estudio de la Atlántida -a modo de exordio- desde las fuentes documentales primarias y secundarias. Tomo I". Esta obra es la primera entrega de una serie de VI volúmenes sobre un estudio basado en el análisis paleográfico, etimológico y lexicográfico de los textos del Critias y el Timeo en sus versiones greco-latinas más antiguas conocidas en la tradición manuscrita; así como la tradición exegética en relación con la historia de la Atlántida. Se concluye que la civilización atlántica descrita por Platón (y otros antiguos autores), de haber existido, solamente podría encontrarse expandida -en su núcleo o centro neurálgico- en el triángulo comprendido entre la Península Ibérica, las islas Madeira y el noroeste de África, siendo dichas regiones -en parte- restos del territorio Atlántico donde se enmarcaría la narración. First of all, it is my duty to make it clear for the reader that this book is a very condensed summary of a series of books that have been already published, more than thirty books written by the author about historical and scientific Atlantology. On this occasion, the author has tried to summarize as much as possible the extensive footnotes, dense critical apparatus, and extensive bibliographic references from previous editions, which were aimed at a more academic or specialized public. The purpose of this brief work is to give a fast and simple overview of the hypothesis, investigations, contributions and findings related to Atlantis carried out by the author over the last two decades, no matter the level of expertise, focusing particularly on those issues that have been handled – and only briefly explained- by the author in the fascinating documentary, Atlantis Discovered, produced by James Francis Cameron, Yaron Niski y Felix Golubev, and directed by the Canadian award winning filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici for National Geographic. In this regard, I hope this book serves as a complement to improve data and details that could not be appreciated when watching the documentary, for obvious production reasons. No documentary, no matter how lengthy is, can gather all the details of a research, let alone when the author’s participation is only partial, having to share it with some other experts who proposed different hypotheses related to the location of Atlantis in the Mediterranean and Azores area. Two hours are not enough, nor would be three or four more hours, to sum up, albeit briefly, several hypotheses. At least a series of ten lengthy chapters would be required to develop more fully the author’s investigations about Atlantis. The book explores how Latin America indicated an autonomous form of postcolonialism that was marked by the production of multiple conceptualisations of time. The analysis particularly focuses on iconic urban transformations in capital cities such as Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and Brasilia, diachronically, and investigates each case’s specific representations of past, present, and future. By exploring these three episodes, the book shows how Latin America’s postcolonialism involved specific spatial dynamics that were inherently working over global socio-political geographies resulting from the legacy of a “long” colonial imagination. The text is divided into two parts. The first part discusses some theoretical questions concerning the very conceptualization of Latin American space and the importance of exploring a genealogy of its urban geographies. The second part analyses the themes proposed through the discussion of the “materiality” of specific historical examples. The section delves into urban transformations in the aforementioned capital cities and focuses on how iconic material forms are able to encapsulate the main socio-political features defining each country’s post-colonial project. The book aims to depict a historical geography capable of describing how controversial relations between power and knowledge had materialised in the shapes of the urban environment and had iconically contributed to the multifaceted production of the global area known as Latin America. Without any pretension to offer an all-embracing perspective, the book dis-cusses the Latin America experience within the broader question concerning the genealogy of global socio-political geographies.
