Book Description
Assignment Eire 1948 is a complete story in itself, it forms the 2nd volume of Jack and Tess's adventures. The year is 1948, and Ireland is the setting for this escapade. Ireland is still smarting from the partition, but after leaving the Commonwealth and striving to finally emerge as the tiger it is today, one might say that 1948 was Ireland's rebirth. If you can never get enough of that grand love affair with your Irish heritage, then you should add this thought provoking and stimulating story to your collection. In this submission Jack and Tess are New York City Police Officers and are ordered to Ireland, to join the Garda to stop the weapons for drugs exchange with the New York City underworld and a loyalist splinter group. They are innocently drawn into what is known as the troubles. This creates a handicap for them as they try to accomplish their mission. Tess's fondness for a garter belt holster, several life threatening shootouts, while being protected by a Seraph who must have smiled on their tender moments in a hay stack, invites one to follow along on their mission. In bringing this second volume to fruition I must thank the critic's who commended my former work. They have been more than kind, and for this I am profoundly grateful. I have tried to make it as interesting as possible for the Irish it was written for, and for those who wish they were Irish. -Howard K. Storms

The Rise of Management Consulting in Britain
Author: Michael Ferguson
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351728423
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 272
Book Description
This title was first published in 2002: The history of management consulting in Britain is a subject that has received little attention in the past in terms of research or publication. This work redresses the gap in the knowledge base of business and management history, presenting the historical situation in the context of management consulting. Identifying the beginnings of consultancy services in the mid-nineteenth century, Ferguson charts its progression through a series of time frames that span the twentieth century. Utilizing a series of consistent themes, such as service delivery forms and training, which can be compared and contrasted across time, the book provides not only a history of management consultancy services, but also shows how the take-up and form of services was heavily dependent upon the prevailing attitudes within business to the role of management. The thoroughly researched and well-presented arguments in this book will greatly add to our knowledge of British management during the twentieth century.

The Art of David Ireland
Author: Karen Tsujimoto
Publisher: University of California Press
ISBN: 0520240456
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 248
Book Description
Widely recognized as one of the West Coast's most important and critically acclaimed practitioners of conceptual and installation art, David Ireland (born 1930) has taken the concept of art itself as one of his subjects. A self-described "post-discipline" artist, guided by Zen thought and postmodern aesthetics, Ireland moves fluidly from making small drawings to creating sculptures as large as houses. Freely incorporating anything within his conceptual or physical reach—dirt, concrete, wire, and other everyday materials—his work is subtle, puzzling, and witty, and consistently challenges traditional definitions of art. In this book accompanying the first full-scale retrospective of Ireland's work, curator and author Karen Tsujimoto provides an insightful overview of more than thirty years of the artist's accomplishments, from his drawings, sculptures, and site-specific installations to his remarkable series of architectural transformations, including his well-known house at 500 Capp Street in San Francisco. Chronicling Ireland's circuitous route to his calling, Tsujimoto explores how key life experiences have influenced his artistic perspective—from his early art-student days, through his years as an African importer and safari guide, to his long-standing interest in Eastern, and particularly Zen, philosophy and his deep connections with the San Francisco Bay Area conceptual art community. An illuminating essay by art historian and curator Jennifer R. Gross also considers Ireland's art in terms of historical materialism—assessing his use of neglected materials and artifacts as a process of cultural preservation.
