This unit of instruction is designed as a guideline for performance based law enforcement basic training. This guide assists the instructor in the development of an appropriate lesson plan that will achieve the performance objectives for the basic police course regarding assault or battery laws. This unit emphasizes the laws relative to simple assault (Penal Code section 240) and battery (Penal Code section 242). Particular emphasis will be put on the development of an assault into a battery situation. Special enactment of these crimes will be utilized to provide practice in identifying these activities.
