Book Description
Over the past 20 years, public concerns have grown in response to the apparent rising prevalence of food allergy and related atopic conditions, such as eczema. Although evidence on the true prevalence of food allergy is complicated by insufficient or inconsistent data and studies with variable methodologies, many health care experts who care for patients agree that a real increase in food allergy has occurred and that it is unlikely to be due simply to an increase in awareness and better tools for diagnosis. Many stakeholders are concerned about these increases, including the general public, policy makers, regulatory agencies, the food industry, scientists, clinicians, and especially families of children and young people suffering from food allergy. At the present time, however, despite a mounting body of data on the prevalence, health consequences, and associated costs of food allergy, this chronic disease has not garnered the level of societal attention that it warrants. Moreover, for patients and families at risk, recommendations and guidelines have not been clear about preventing exposure or the onset of reactions or for managing this disease. Finding a Path to Safety in Food Allergy examines critical issues related to food allergy, including the prevalence and severity of food allergy and its impact on affected individuals, families, and communities; and current understanding of food allergy as a disease, and in diagnostics, treatments, prevention, and public policy. This report seeks to: clarify the nature of the disease, its causes, and its current management; highlight gaps in knowledge; encourage the implementation of management tools at many levels and among many stakeholders; and delineate a roadmap to safety for those who have, or are at risk of developing, food allergy, as well as for others in society who are responsible for public health.

Book Description
Tolerating Troublesome Foods There are many books on excluding foods where adverse reactions are suspected. Tolerating Troublesome Foods is a book with information on how to put foods back into the diet with the best chance of success. It provides information on just how to maximize tolerance of foods in the Best Guess Food Guide of over 300 foods. This book was written by Joan Breakey, well-known dietitian who has specialized in food intolerance. She has conducted clinical research collecting information on the outcomes of food trials in food sensitive patients for over 35 years. This information allows people to expand their diet with a wider variety than they expected. Information is provided on factors that may affect whether a reaction will happen or not. This book is set out with many headings and easy-to-read information that is interesting and up-to-date. It can take people on a journey from a diet that is restrictive to one that is personalized to each individual's tolerance. It explains how and why each person's diet is different. Chapter 1 contains explanations of elimination diets and how to expand them, how to apply the information to each person, and why doing this is challenging. Chapter 2 explains adverse reactions, how individual they can be, the metabolic fingerprint, and what to expect when reacting, and the many symptoms. Chapter 3 shows that tolerance is different depending factors in the person permanently, occasionally, in the environment, and in the food itself. Chapter 4 shows how to apply what each person then knows to their own situation so that they can experiment with food in the way that best suits their lifestyle. Chapter 5 is the Best Guess Food Guide which has details on over 300 foods, how risky different forms are, how to test them, amounts to try, detail and stories about tolerance. Chapter 6 provides summary lists of the many foods to test from lower to higher risk foods at a glance, and the baseline amounts for the Family Elimination Diet, followed by a useful glossary and index.

Book Description
A groundbreaking parenting guidebook addressing the trait of “high sensitivity” in children, from the psychologist and bestselling author of The Highly Sensitive Person whose books have sold more than 1 million copies With the publication of The Highly Sensitive Person, pioneering psychotherapist Dr. Elaine Aron became the first person to identify the inborn trait of “high sensitivity” and to show how it affects the lives of those who possess it. In The Highly Sensitive Child, Dr. Aron shifts her focus to the 15 to 20 percent of children who are born highly sensitive—deeply reflective, sensitive to the subtle, and easily overwhelmed. These qualities can make for smart, conscientious, creative children, but also may result in shyness, fussiness, or acting out. As Dr. Aron shows in The Highly Sensitive Child, if your child seems overly inhibited, particular, or you worry that they may have a neurodevelopmental disorder, such as ADHD or autism, they may simply be highly sensitive. And raised with proper understanding and care, highly sensitive children can grow up to be happy, healthy, well-adjusted adults. Rooted in Dr. Aron’s years of experience working with highly sensitive children and their families, as well as in her original research on child temperament, The Highly Sensitive Child explores the challenges of raising an HSC; the four keys to successfully parenting an HSC; how to help HSCs thrive in a not-so-sensitive world; and how to make school and friendships enjoyable. With chapters addressing the needs of specific age groups, from newborns to teens, The Highly Sensitive Child is the ultimate resource for parents, teachers, and the sensitive children in their lives.
