Book Description
From Salvador Dalí to Walt Disney, animals have been a constant yet little-considered presence in film. Indeed, it may come as a surprise to learn that animals were a central inspiration to the development of moving pictures themselves. In Animals in Film, Jonathan Burt points out that the mobility of animals presented technical and conceptual challenges to early film-makers, the solutions of which were an important factor in advancing photographic technology, accelerating the speed of both film and camera. The early filming of animals also marked one of the most significant and far-reaching changes in the history of animal representation, and has largely determined the way animals have been visualized in the twentieth century. Burt looks at the extraordinary relation-ship between animals, cinema and photography (including the pioneering work of Eadweard Muybridge and Jules-Etienne Marey) and the technological developments and challenges posed by the animal as a specific kind of moving object. Animals in Film is a shrewd account of the politics of animals in cinema, of how movies and video have developed as weapons for animal rights activists, and of the roles that animals have played in film, from the avant-garde to Hollywood.

Making Animals Public
Author: Gay Hawkins and Ben Dibley
Publisher: Sydney University Press
ISBN: 1743329695
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 148
Book Description
Making Animals Public: television, animality and political engagement focuses on the proliferation of animal content on television and how this has transformed how animals are known and encountered, generating unique modes of televisual animality. The book examines the multiplicity of public realities and knowledges that animals on TV have constituted: from scientific objectivity, to the unique Australian environment, to controversial victims of gross exploitation. Just as television has made animals public in very particular ways, it has also made new publics that have learnt to be affected by them. Thanks to extraordinary access to the ABC’s Natural History and general archives, the authors are able to investigate the dynamic relation between making animals public and making publics over time.

Social Animals
Author: Neoxenok
Publisher: Trigg Publishing
ISBN:
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 397
Book Description
Becoming an employee for the SCP Foundation is no small thing. For Dr. Joseph Taylor, it was the moment his life changed forever. Aside from the secrecy and focus on security, it didn't seem that different from what he would have expected from a secretive organization. The first project he and a team of colleagues are given involves an anomalous wormhole: a gateway to a parallel Earth. It does not take long until it becomes apparent just how dangerous this other world is. It is so dangerous, in fact, that Dr. Taylor and his colleagues may be moved off the project entirely as they scrap their plans for the new facility Dr. Taylor was supposed to be a part of. However, when a Foundation prisoner escapes during the initial containment operations of the anomaly, Dr. Taylor sees an opportunity. Eager to prove his worth, impress his superiors, and advance his career, Dr. Taylor volunteers to find the prisoner and study this world in detail before the wormhole is permanently closed. Now, Dr. Taylor must find the escaped prisoner, study how this world came to be the way it is and the all-powerful architects of the new shape this world has taken, and return home without being found. If he fails, our world may suffer a fate worse than total extinction.
