Angelic Witness to the King of Glory
Author: Ralph Ebotmanyinaw
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1664266852
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 157
Book Description
ANGELIC WITNESS TO THE KING OF GLORY is about the role played by the angels of God in the Incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ. Part of the book is about the Lord’s birth, earthly ministry, death, burial and resurrection of the Lord. The emphasis in Part I is the deity of Christ. The book is mainly about angels: Who they are; and What they do. It speaks of the origin of angels, and their Creator who is Jesus Christ. It gives you the hierarchies of angels, types, angelic hosts, etc. It seeks to brings clarity to the misrepresentations given by the movie industry concerning these amazing creatures. Angels are not female, they are genderless;but they are spiritual beings, far superior to the human being; and they are the most powerful beings in the universe. They travel at the speed of thought. The book discusses the power of angels, and their role as messengers of God. They traveled with their Lord which they did wherever He goes. They were with Him the whole time He walked the earth, they heard the speeches He made, and they knew the grave could not hold Him, so they were the first at the scene of the Resurrection. Angels were the ones who pulled the disciples from the clutches of the powers of darkness as the persecutors tried to snap the life out of the church even in its infancy, and they made sure the church went viral. A-must read is the fall of Satan as the author poses a provocative question and answers: “Could Satan create his own universe?” The book shows that as powerful as the devil is against humans, the gap between him and the Almighty is too wide and impossible to fill. Jesus Christ is the same God as the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Second Witness: Analytical and Contextual Commentary on the Book of Mormon
Author: Brant A. Gardner
Publisher: Greg Kofford Books
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 848
Book Description
Stop looking for the Book of Mormon in Mesoamerica and start looking for Mesoamerica in the Book of Mormon! Second Witness, a new six-volume series from Greg Kofford Books, takes a detailed, verse-by-verse look at the Book of Mormon. It marshals the best of modern scholarship and new insights into a consistent picture of the Book of Mormon as a historical document. Taking a faithful but scholarly approach to the text and reading it through the insights of linguistics, anthropology, and ethnohistory, the commentary approaches the text from a variety of perspectives: how it was created, how it relates to history and culture, and what religious insights it provides. The commentary accepts the best modern scholarship, which focuses on a particular region of Mesoamerica as the most plausible location for the Book of Mormon’s setting. For the first time, that location—its peoples, cultures, and historical trends—are used as the backdrop for reading the text. The historical background is not presented as proof, but rather as an explanatory context. The commentary does not forget Mormon’s purpose in writing. It discusses the doctrinal and theological aspects of the text and highlights the way in which Mormon created it to meet his goal of “convincing . . . the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God.”

The Angel in the Marketplace
Author: Ellen Wayland-Smith
Publisher: University of Chicago Press
ISBN: 022648646X
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 280
Book Description
The popular image of a midcentury adwoman is of a feisty girl beating men at their own game, a female Horatio Alger protagonist battling her way through the sexist workplace. But before the fictional rise of Peggy Olson or the real-life stories of Patricia Tierney and Jane Maas came Jean Wade Rindlaub: a female power broker who used her considerable success in the workplace to encourage other women—to stick to their kitchens. The Angel in the Marketplace is the story of one of America’s most accomplished advertising executives. It is also the story of how advertisers like Rindlaub sold a postwar American dream of capitalism and a Christian corporate order. Rindlaub was responsible for award-winning, mega sales-generating advertisements for all things domestic, including Oneida silverware, Betty Crocker cake mix, Campbell’s soup, and Chiquita bananas. Her success largely came from embracing, rather than subverting, the cultural expectations of women. She believed her responsibility as an advertiser was not to spring women from their trap, but to make that trap more comfortable. Rindlaub wasn’t just selling silverware and cakes; she was selling the virtues of free enterprise. By following the arc of Rindlaub’s career from the 1920s through the 1960s, we witness how a range of cultural narratives—advertising chief among them—worked powerfully to shape women’s emotional and economic behavior in support of the free market system. Alongside Rindlaub’s story, Ellen Wayland-Smith provides a riveting history of how women were repeatedly sold the idea that their role as housewives was more powerful, and more patriotic, than any outside the home. And by buying into the image of morality through an unregulated market, many of these women helped fuel backlash against economic regulation and socialization efforts throughout the twentieth century. The Angel in the Marketplace is a nuanced portrayal of a complex woman, one who both shaped and reflected the complicated cultural, political, and religious forces defining femininity in America at mid-century. This compelling account of one of advertising’s most fervent believers is a tale of a Mad Woman we haven’t been told.

A New Witness for God Volume 2 (of 3)
Author: Brigham Henry Roberts
Publisher: THE DESERET NEWS
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 279
Book Description
Example in this ebook The following work was begun twenty-two years ago, in England, when the author was in that land on a Mission, as assistant Editor of the Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star. It was the author's design then to make the treatise on the Book of Mormon the first volume under the general title "New Witnesses for God"; but after some progress in collecting and arranging the materials had been made, the thought occurred to him that the Prophet Joseph Smith in chronological order, if not in importance, preceded the Book of Mormon in the introduction of God's Witnesses in this last and great dispensation. The materials of this work, therefore, so far as they had been collected, were laid aside and work was begun on the treatise of Joseph Smith as a Witness for God; which, however, because of many other demands upon the author's time, was not published until 1895. Meantime work was continued from time to time upon the treatise of the Book of Mormon; and in 1903-4-5, the materials were used, substantially as in their present form, as Manuals for the Senior Classes of the Young Men's Mutual Improvement Associations. The work has undergone a thorough revision at the hands of the author, and is now to take the place in his writings designed for it so long ago. While the coming forth of the Book of Mormon is but an incident in God's great work of the last days, and the book itself subordinate to some other facts in that work, still the incident of its coming forth and the book are facts of such importance that the whole work of God may be said, in a manner, to stand or fall with them. That is to say, if the origin of the Book of Mormon could be proved to be other than that set forth by Joseph Smith; if the book itself could be proved to be other than it claims to be, viz., and chiefly, an abridged history of the ancient inhabitants of America, a volume of scripture containing a message from God to the people to whom it was written—"to the Lamanites [American Indians], who are a remnant of the house of Israel; and also to Jew and Gentile; written by way of commandment, and also by the spirit of prophecy and revelation"—if, I say, the Book of Mormon could be proved to be other than this, then the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and its message and doctrines, which, in some respects, may be said to have arisen out of the Book of Mormon, must fall; for if that book is other than it claims to be; if its origin is other than that ascribed to it by Joseph Smith, then Joseph Smith says that which is untrue; he is a false prophet of false prophets; and all he taught, and all his claims to inspiration and divine authority, are not only vain but wicked; and all that he did as a religious teacher is not only useless, but mischievous beyond human comprehending. Nor does this statement of the case set forth sufficiently strong the situation. Those who accept the Book of Mormon for what it claims to be, may not so state their case that its security chiefly rests on the inability of its opponents to prove a negative. The affirmative side of the question belongs to us who hold out the Book of Mormon to the world as a revelation from God. The burden of proof rests upon us in every discussion. It is not enough for us to say that if the origin of the Book of Mormon is proved to be other than that set forth by Joseph Smith; if the book itself be proved to be other than it claims to be, then the institution known as "Mormonism" must fall. We must do more than rest our case on the inability of opponents to prove a negative. To be continue in this ebook

Acts: Courageous Witness in a Hostile World
Author: Howard Brant
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1621896463
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 344
Book Description
Most commentaries on Acts are written by Western scholars for a Western audience. This book comes out of more than forty years of teaching in the Majority World. It is aimed at the new breed of emerging missionaries from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The apostles in Acts faced a hostile world. Yet in that context, the Holy Spirit gave them incredible courage. The scenes of Peter, Stephen, and Paul facing angry mobs and the fury of the Jewish Sanhedrin are being played out in India, China, and Eritrea today. Acts teaches us how to have a "courageous witness in a hostile world." Further, this work addresses the powerful forces that assault the worldwide church--particularly the racism that splits the church all over the world. Acts: Courageous Witness in a Hostile World will thrill you as you see how God's Spirit overcomes every obstacle and keeps the church on track, even when we think all is lost. Read this book for yourself and become courageous.

Witness to Christmas
Author: Lawrence A. Mauerman
Publisher: Page Publishing Inc
ISBN: 1642147753
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 203
Book Description
Never before in mankind's history has it been more important to understand the story of the birth of Jesus, and yet, even though it has been told countless times, it is not fully understood by the majority of people. To many, it has become a crA"che on the mantelpiece, special church services, gift giving, and family time together. These may all be worthy things, to be sure, but the event was-and still is-so much more! This book explains the reality of Christmas and its part in the Father's eternal plan. It fills in the gaps, provides the proper order, and introduces the significant participants-all of them. This it does in the context of the times, the places, and the customs. Those marvelous events did not occur out of mere happenstance, but they had been planned before the foundation of this little planet and prophesied for centuries, even millennia, before they occurred. They rolled forth exactly as the Father planned. Not only will you come to know the purpose of each event, but in each and every case, you will discover that there were credible witnesses who testified to what they saw and heard. It will lift Christmas from out of the mythology that it has become and restore it back to its rightful place as the marvelous reality that it is. Most importantly, you will also learn how you personally can gain the undeniable assurance that the words of the witnesses are true. It's possible! In fact, after reading this book and applying for the assurances of the Holy Spirit, you will know the events of the first Christmas so well, you will have the feeling you were actually there-and perhaps you were!
