Book Description
"Angel Otero: Everything and Nothing, the artist's first survey exhibition, encompasses more than a decade's worth of painting and sculpture. This resplendent monograph, which accompanies the exhibition yet is intended to endure long beyond it, reveals both the overt themes and the more ambiguous substructures of Otero's oeuvre to date, from his early still lifes and famous "skins"--paintings made of fragments and scraps of oil paint culled from previously painted images--to his more recent "transfers" and innovative sculptural work in porcelain and steel or iron. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Otero has enjoyed massive acclaim since he first began exhibiting his work in Chicago in the mid-2000s. Like so many artists, he continued his trajectory to New York, and today, from his studio in Brooklyn, he continues to push against a myriad of personal and art-historical narratives in ways that are palpable in his lush, seductive canvases and in the hybrid products of his kiln. This volume contains, in addition to many dazzling images and large-scale details of Otero's work, two incisive essays and a wide-ranging interview, which, from their quite different perspectives, reveal the corporeal, cultural, and intellectual repositories that have shaped Otero as an artist as well as the vast web of connective tissues that have sustained his creative endeavors over the past decade."--Publisher's website.

Book Description
Fred Baldwin's life took a turn in the direction of the extraordinary when he decided to interview and photograph Pablo Picasso. In his last year of college, he delivered a letter with own drawings to the artist. This made Picasso laugh and open the door. Baldwin's life changed. He followed his dream, used his imagination, overcame fear, and acted - now he could accomplish anything. What followed were picture stories about reindeer migrations, a day and a night with the Ku Klux Klan, Nobel Prize coverage, cod fishing in Arctic Norway, polar bear expeditions. Then underwater images of the fight of hooked Marlin in Mexico - an homage to Hemingway. In 1963, Baldwin joined the Civil Rights Movement, photographing Martin Luther King. A two-year stint as Peace Corps director in Borneo was followed by more photojournalism in India and Afghanistan. This account takes the reader to high adventure worldwide, but also to disaster and failure. This illustrated love affair with freedom shows how a camera became a passport to the world.0Fred Baldwin was born in 1928 in Switzerland. After earning his B.A. degree from Columbia College, New York in 1956, he began a freelance photography career which continued until 1987. Baldwin worked for LIFE, National Geographic, GEO, STERN, Esquire, Sports Illustrated, Smithsonian Magazine, Newsweek, the New York Times and others.

Book Description
“What I want to do is code-switch. To have there be layers of history and politics, but also this heady, arty stuff—inside jokes, black humor—that you might have to take a while to research if you want to really get it.”—Sanford Biggers Sanford Biggers (b. 1970) is a Harlem-based artist working in various media including painting, sculpture, video, and performance. He describes his practice as “code-switching”—mixing disparate elements to create layers of meaning—to account for his wide-ranging interests. This catalogue focuses on a series of repurposed quilts (many made in the 19th century) that embodies this interest in mixture. Informed by the significance of quilts to the Underground Railroad, Biggers transforms the quilts into new works using materials such as paint, tar, glitter, and charcoal to add his own layers of codes, whether they be historical, political, or purely artistic. Insightful essays survey Biggers’s career, his art in relation to music, and the history upon which the series draws. Also featured is a short yet powerful graphic essay by an award-winning illustrator that introduces the layered meanings inherent in the art and craft of quilting.

Book Description
People have always travelled within Europe for work and leisure, although never before with the current intensity. Now, however, they are travelling for many other reasons, including the quest for key services such as health care. Whatever the reason for travelling, one question they ask is "If I fall ill, will the health care I receive be of a high standard?" This book examines, for the first time, the systems that have been put in place in all of the European Union's 27 Member States. The picture it paints is mixed. Some have well developed systems, setting standards based on the best available evidence, monitoring the care provided, and taking action where it falls short. Others need to overcome significant obstacles.

Book Description
Yuma County was created in 1864, following the organization of the Arizona Territory in 1862, and was one of the four original counties along with Yavapai, Mohave, and Pima. With the arrival of E.F. Sanguinetti and John Gandolfo in the late 19th century, a business empire was born and a community developed. Due to the creation of stores, farms, and the mining industry, the area's population grew from 4,415 in 1900 to 224,427 in 2015. Now a ghost town, the original county seat was formed in La Paz. By 1871, it was relocated 100 miles south to Arizona City, which was renamed Yuma in 1873. In 1982, Yuma County was divided in half, creating Yuma and La Paz Counties.
