Book Description
The objectives of this research were (1) to develop an accurate and sensitive method of analysis for nitroguanidine alone and in the presence of other explosives, (2) to characterize the products resulting from the chemical degradation of nitroguanidine and (3) to determine the rates of degradation of nitroguanidine under acidic, basic and neutral conditions. This study showed that nitroguanidine can be separated and identified in a mixture of other explosives by using either thin layer or high pressure liquid chromatography. Quantitative analysis, based on high pressure liquid chromatography, can be carried out. Nitroguanidine was found to be stable in water and in dilute acid, but to decompose instantly in concentrated (greater than 6N) acid to CO2 and a nitrogen oxide. A kinetic study of hydrolysis by base, to give N20 and NH3, showed the reaction to be pseudo-first order. The reaction was found to be subject to specific base catalysis. (Author).

The Analysis of Explosives
Author: Jehuda Yinon
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483140059
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 323
Book Description
The Analysis of Explosives surveys the principles of the various analytical methods, describes how these methods are used for the analysis of explosives, and reviews the major analytical work carried out in this field. Organized into 15 chapters, this book begins with the classification of explosives. Subsequent chapters discuss the different methods for the analysis of explosives. The detection and identification of explosive residues and hidden explosives are also explained. This monograph will be useful as a reference book for chemists in analytical and forensic laboratories, as well as a textbook for graduate students in analytical chemistry and forensic sciences.

Overview of On-site Analytical Methods for Explosives in Soil
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Explosives
Languages : en
Pages : 74
Book Description
The purpose of this report is to survey the current status of field sampling and on-site analytical methods for detecting and quantifying secondary explosives compounds in soils (Table 1). The paper also includes a brief discussion of EPA Method 8330 (EPA 1995), the reference analytical method for the determination of 14 explosives and co-contaminants in soil. This report is divided into the following major sections: introduction; background; an overview of sampling and analysis for explosives in soil; data quality objectives; unique sampling design considerations for explosives; procedures for statistically comparing on-site and reference analytical methods; a summary of on-site analytical methods; and a summary of the current EPA reference analytical method, Method 8330 (EPA 1995). Although some sections may be used independently, joint use of the field sampling and on-site analytical methods sections is recommended to develop a sampling and analytical approach that achieves project objectives.
