Compte-rendu D'un Atelier Sur la Recherche, Le Monitoring Et la Gestion Des Ressources Naturelles Dans Le Grand Écosystème de Kouchibouguac
Author: Parks Canada. Atlantic Region
Publisher: [Halifax, N.-É] : Canadian Heritage, Parks Canada = Patrimoine canadien, Parcs Canada
ISBN:
Category : Nature
Languages : fr
Pages : 168
Book Description
A two day workshop on Research and Monitoring in the Greater Kouchibouguac Ecosystem was held in Richibucto on November 1995. Participants from several federal and provincial departments, as well as conservation groups and universities gathered together during these two days of exchange on the research and monitoring work they were doing, not only in KNP, but also in the surrounding areas. This final product of the workshop constitutes a compendium of short papers from several speakers presentations (not all speakers submitted a paper). The reader will find a wide range of papers on different topics from sand dune dynamics to paleobotanical work in bogs to fisheries impacts on a tern colony to clam population assessment. This variety of papers reflects the holistic approach that Kouchibouguac National Park's conservation staff are taking towards ecosystem management.

Taking the Air
Author: Paul Kopas
Publisher: UBC Press
ISBN: 0774858141
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 249
Book Description
In Taking the Air, Paul Kopas takes a comprehensive approach to the policy aspects of the management of parks and protected areas. He scrutinizes the policy-making process for national parks since the mid-1950s and interrogates the rationale and policies that have governed their administration. He argues that national parks and park policy reflect not only environmental concerns but also the political and social attitudes of bureaucrats, citizens, interest groups, Aboriginal peoples, and legal authorities. He explores how the goals of each group have been shaped by the historical context of park policy, influencing the shape and weight of their contributions.

Seed Ecology
Author: M.W. Fenner
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400948441
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 159
Book Description
This book is about the regeneration of plants from seed under field conditions. It attempts to give a reasonably balanced overview of the many aspects of this broad topic. The first chapter introduces some general ideas about reproduction in plants. Subsequent chapters deal with the early stages in the life of a plant, from ovule to established seedling, in a more or less chronological order. The final chapter shows how the data on regeneration requirements of different species can be used to explain a number of important characteristics of whole plant communities. The study of the ecological aspects of reproduction by seed touches on a range of issues of current interest in biology. A discussion of seed size and number involves a consideration of the concepts of resource allocation, life cycles and strategies. The in teractions between plants and animals seen in pollination, seed dispersal and predation provide excellent material for the study of coevolution. Investigations on regeneration from seed have greatly our understanding of the causes and maintenance of species added to diversity. The reader will find that virtually all the experiments and field observations described in this book are conceptually very simple. Many of them merely required numerous careful measurements.
