Computer-aided Site Feasibility Studies
Author: John Steven Gero
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780855890483
Category : Building sites
Languages : en
Pages : 9
Book Description
The process of obtaining feasible outline solutions for the development of sites, especially large sites, in cities, has to a large degree been one of combining experience with trial and error primarily because of the complexity of the problem. Built form in cities is controlled by two considerations - the method of controlling development (legislative) and the feasibility of developing specific sites for specific purposes (economic). The legislative controls or building regulations are often taken as constraints which provide bounds within which feasible solutions must be searched for. This paper is concerned with models for determining feasible solutions: iterative search, interactive heuristic search, and dynamic programming optimisation. Each method is described in detail, an algorithm laid down, and examples given. It is shown how the legislative controls can, if desired, be fitted into such models; all three have been used in practice by architects.
