Book Description
Excerpt from An Epitome of Personal Property Law Another difficulty lies in the multiplicity of statutory regulations. Here I have attempted to cull those only which affect property as such in its creation, the extent of its enjoyment, and most Of all in the methods of its conveyance. It is assumed that the student is now competent to deal with a somewhat increased number of cases. The specimens of instruments set out in full or in shortened form are founded partly on documents, which are, or have been, in my own possession, partly on statutory forms, partly made up from comparison of the best authorities. Book Description
Excerpt from A Treatise on the Law of Personal Property The object of the present edition has been two-fold, namely. To eliminate entirely from the original work so much of its text as is inapplicable in the United States, and to supply, instead, a fur ther presentation, upon the latest authorities, English and American, of the law of the subjects treated of in the retained text, together With that of sundry topics of importance not therein discussed. The few notes which have been retained are, as indicated by the initials G. W, the work of the learned editors of the last edition of Williams on Personal Property, Messrs. Gerhard and Wetherill, of the Philadelphia bar. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Modern Law of Personal Property The present work is intended to be the complement of the Modern Law of Real Property; in consequence of the favor able reception accorded to that work the Author has been induced to undertake this one. The same method has been adopted in particular, where it has appeared desirable, statutes have been quoted verbatim, and in like manner expositions of the lau7 by Judges and Writers are given in their own words. What is common both to realty and to personalty and has been already treated of in the earlier work has not been repeated in this. The subjects of Bankruptcy and of Bills of Sale have been fully treated separate chapters have been devoted to the Bills of Exchange Act, to the Patents, Designs, and Trade Marks Act, and to the laws of Copyright; in the seventh, eighth, and twelfth Chapters will be found an outline of the law relating to Companies the provisions of the Married Women's Property Act, which has effected so many changes, will be found passim. Book Description
Excerpt from Cases on the Law of Personal Property The purpose of this book is to set out and illustrate by concrete cases these fundamental principles. In selecting these cases, the author has kept in mind two things; viz., first, to include no case based on obsolete law; second, to include only so much of the case as is in point. The cases have also been arranged in such a way as to develop, in a logical order, the legal principles under discussion. As a further help to the student, a topical heading has been used for each case or group of cases the purpose being to give the student something definite to look for. The heading, however, in no instance, reveals the holding of the case, for the author has been as careful to pre vent legal conclusions being drawn from the headings as he has been particular in selecting suitable headings. The cases selected are of such a type and variety as to illustrate, in a comprehensive manner, the underlying principles of the law of Personal Property. Book Description
Excerpt from Goodeve's Modern Law of Personal Property This edition of the work of the late Mr. L .A. Goodeve, which is intended to be a companion volume to the Authors Book on the "Modern Law of Real Property," has been carefully revised and brought up to date. The present editors having to some extent re-written and re-arranged the last edition, they have not found it necessary to make any considerable alterations in the present edition. Believing that it is desirable in the case of a book of this character to prevent as far as possible its size increasing with every edition, the editors have by careful condensation succeeded in preventing any material increase in the size of the volume although much new matter has been added. During the comparatively short period which has elapsed since the appearance of the third edition there have not been any great codifications of the law, such as the Sale of Goods Act, 1898, and the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894, which made it necessary to re-write some chapters of the last edition; but the Companies Act, 1900, has necessitated considerable additions to the chapter on Companies, while recent decisions have caused some important additions to and alterations in the chapters on Choses in Action, Patents, Trade Marks, and Copyright.
