Book Description
Over the past decade, cognitive therapy principles originally developed for outpatients have been successfully adapted for use with more severely ill, hospitalized patients. Noted for its cogent theoretical formulations, replicable procedures, and documentation of outcome--all features that are highly desirable on inpatient units--cognitive therapy also has the advantage of a short-term format, a critical factor in the face of escalating health care costs. COGNITIVE THERAPY WITH INPATIENTS, the first volume to describe the development of a "cognitive milieu," is a practical manual that describes effective cognitive strategies and procedures for short-term psychiatric hospitalization. The book begins with an overview of the basic concepts of cognitive therapy and hospital psychiatry. Detailed instructions are given for developing and maintaining different types of inpatient cognitive therapy units. Using a "step-by-step" approach, the authors demonstrate how the cognitive milieu can be adapted to fit the needs of a wide variety of treatment settings. Extensive illustrations, including actual dialogued of treatment interactions, are used to describe interventions. Pragmatic advice is given for application in individual, group, and family formats. The volume also offers indepth coverage of the theoretical and practical issues involved in combining cognitive therapy with pharmacotherapy. Asserting that the fusion of these models enhances both forms of treatment--and stressing the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork in effective hospital care--the book describes methods of building effective treatment teams and devotes particular attention to the functions of psychiatric nurses. Techniques are identified for maximizing the chances of good outcome while minimizing the risk of relapse. In addition, special applications for treatment of adolescent inpatients, alcohol and substance abuse, eating disorders, geropsychiatry, and chronic patients are discussed. Designed as a treatment guide for all professionals who work in hospital settings, this unique volume is a valuable resource for psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and nurses. It also serves as a text for graduate courses in cognitive therapy, psychiatry residency training programs, psychology doctoral programs, and graduate programs in psychiatric nursing.

Book Description
LSIT is based on the scientific foundation of quantum physics. This deals with holistic structures and their interactions. The high dynamics of life is achieved by constantly changing relationships and opportunities, combined with a high gain of experience. This improves the adaptability and the chances of survival. Everything is subject to a higher meaning communicated to us about spiritual needs. We are spirit-driven beings who inhabit a body subject to electrodynamic laws. Each action requires information and energy, which we call up about our intentions. Diseases can be treated with medication. These transmit certain healing information. The LSIT uses this information directly, without need of pills. That's what makes them so efficient. It is capable of initiating healing processes even in advanced diseases. The author, Dr Bodo Koehler, MD, born in 1948, has more than 45 years of experience in the clinic and his own practice as an internist with extensive additional training. Since 1980 he has been one of the pioneers of bioenergetic measurement and therapy procedures. A lot of his developments are now standard in many practices. The author is a lecturer at home and abroad.

Book Description
The rise—and fall—of research into the therapeutic potential of LSD. After LSD arrived in the United States in 1949, the drug's therapeutic promise quickly captured the interests of psychiatrists. In the decade that followed, modern psychopharmacology was born and research into the drug's perceptual and psychological effects boomed. By the early 1960s, psychiatrists focused on a particularly promising treatment known as psychedelic therapy: a single, carefully guided, high-dose LSD session coupled with brief but intensive psychotherapy. Researchers reported an astounding 50 percent success rate in treating chronic alcoholism, as well as substantial improvement in patients suffering from a range of other disorders. Yet despite this success, LSD officially remained an experimental drug only. Research into its effects, psychological and otherwise, dwindled before coming to a close in the 1970s. In The Trials of Psychedelic Therapy, Matthew Oram traces the early promise and eventual demise of LSD psychotherapy in the United States. While the common perception is that LSD's prohibition terminated legitimate research, Oram draws on files from the Food and Drug Administration and the personal papers of LSD researchers to reveal that the most significant issue was not the drug's illegality, but the persistent question of its efficacy. The landmark Kefauver-Harris Drug Amendments of 1962 installed strict standards for efficacy evaluation, which LSD researchers struggled to meet due to the unorthodox nature of their treatment. Exploring the complex interactions between clinical science, regulation, and therapeutics in American medicine, The Trials of Psychedelic Therapy explains how an age of empirical research and limited government oversight gave way to sophisticated controlled clinical trials and complex federal regulations. Analyzing the debates around how to understand and evaluate treatment efficacy, this book will appeal to anyone with an interest in LSD and psychedelics, as well as mental health professionals, regulators, and scholars of the history of psychiatry, psychotherapy, drug regulation, and pharmaceutical research and development.

While the efficacy of cognitive therapy for depression is well established, every clinician is likely to encounter patients who do not respond to "standard" protocols. In this highly practical volume, leading authorities provide a unified set of clinical guidelines for conceptualizing, assessing, and treating challenging presentations of depression. Presented are detailed, flexible strategies for addressing severe, chronic, partially remitted, or recurrent depression, as well as psychiatric comorbidities, medical conditions, and family problems that may complicate treatment.
