"While it may be catnip for the media to play up America as a has-been, Josef Joffe, a ... German commentator and Stanford University academic, [proposes] that Declinism is not a cold-eyed diagnosis but a device in the style of the ancient prophets ... Gloom is a prophecy that must be believed so that it will turn out wrong. Joffe [posits that] 'economic miracles' that propelled the rising tide of challengers flounder against their own limits. Hardly confined to Europe alone, Declinism has also been an especially nifty career builder for American politicians, among them Kennedy, Nixon, and Reagan, who all rode into the White House by hawking 'the end is near'"--Dust jacket flap.

Book Description
From the author of the landmark Secret Teachings of All Ages comes two classic works on the mysterious origins and unique mission of America: The Secret Destiny of America and America’s Assignment with Destiny. Focusing on often-forgotten moments in history, Manley P. Hall proposes that there was a Great Plan put forth one thousand years before our nation’s founding: humanistic and mystical organizations wished for the continent to be the location for an experiment in self-government and religious freedom. As one of the leading esoteric scholars of the twentieth century, Hall offers an intriguing view of our past, discussing everything from the symbolism of the Great Seal of the U.S. to the prophecy announced at George Washington’s birth.

Book Description
Over the last few decades, politicians in Europe and North America have fiercely debated the effects of a growing Muslim minority on their respective national identities. Some of these countries have prohibited Islamic religious coverings in public spaces and institutions, while in others, legal restriction remains subject to intense political conflict. Seeking to understand these different outcomes, social scientists have focused on the role of countries' historically rooted models of nationhood and their attendant discourses of secularism. Emily Laxer's Unveiling the Nation problematizes this approach. Using France and Quebec as illustrative cases, she traces how the struggle of political parties for power and legitimacy shapes states' responses to Islamic signs. Drawing on historical evidence and behind-the-scenes interviews with politicians and activists, Laxer uncovers unseen links between structures of partisan conflict and the strategies that political actors employ when articulating the secular boundaries of the nation. In France's historically class-based political system, she demonstrates, parties on the left and the right have converged around a restrictive secular agenda in order to limit the siphoning of votes by the ultra-right. In Quebec, by contrast, the longstanding electoral salience of the “national question” has encouraged political actors to project highly conflicting images of the province's secular past, present, and future. At a moment of heightened debate in the global politics of religious diversity, Laxer's Unveiling the Nation sheds critical light on the way party politics and its related instabilities shape the secular boundaries of nationhood in diverse societies.

Book Description
For those who are not Christians, this comes to you so that you also can take comfort in the knowledge that the forces of the enemy of our souls are under the complete control of God and can only act in ways He allows. Jesus came to set the captives free and to give up himself as a ransom for our sins""to give us hope that in knowing him all things are possible. Just as in the days of Daniel, God, who saved the three Hebrew boys from burning in a fiery furnace, sent his Son to rescue them. This same Jesus was sent again to rescue us from our sins through the cross and prevented us from spending eternity in a burning hell. At that time, the Babylonian king built a statue of himself; and he sent out a decree that everyone should bow down before it. When passing, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused because, even though they were in exile from Israel, they knew what God had told them that bowing down to false gods was a sin. Daniel 3:21""29 (NIV) says, So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. The kings command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace. Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, "Weren't there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire? They replied, "Certainly, your Majesty." He said, "Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods." "Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, "Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!" So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowed around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them. Then Nebuchadnezzar said, "Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted him and defied the king's command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God." Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way."

AMERICAN APOCALYPSE is a reflective commentary on the fifty-year Republican Assault on America from the 1971 Powell Republican political “dark money” offensive to save “Capitalism from Democracy” to the 2021 Republican violent Capitol Insurrection of January 6, 2021, to overturn the United States Constitution and the electoral will of the people. Yesterday’s America of prosperity for the many is today an America of prosperity for the few.” This will be America’s forever world of tomorrow should “We the People” allow a Republican “voter suppression” seizure of power succeed in 2022. The time is now “we” UNITE as a People of Liberty for an America of secure living-wage jobs, and an America of affordable healthcare, drug prices, and standard of living. The moment is here to END the Inequality, Corruption, and Violence that holds America hostage to the Republican legislative “trickle-down” tyranny of capital supremacy. The hour has come to DECLARE we are a patriotic people crying out for Equality, Truth, and Justice. Together in 2022 we must RESTORE Democracy to a “Land of the Free” longing for a “fair share” in an America of “Liberty and Justice for All.”

Book Description
Finalist for the 2017 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award in the Religion category In this series of essays, Thomas J. J. Altizer explores the Christian epic as the site of modern revolutionary apocalyptic reenactments and renewals of the original apocalypse enacted by Jesus Christ and primitive Christianity. Beginning with the pivotal seventeenth-century figures Milton and Spinoza, Altizer analyzes the apocalyptic visions of key figures of modernity, including Blake, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, and Joyce, often juxtaposing them to surprising and illuminating effect. These revolutionary moments stand in opposition to what Altizer calls the pathological modern counterrevolution that dominates the world today, which is an effect of a new postmodernity and of a progressive dissolution of historical consciousness. Through his analysis of modern apocalyptic moments and thinkers, this book becomes an elegant and accessible guide to Altizer's own apocalyptic vision and his ultimate project of the total and comprehensive reconstruction of theology.
