Book Description
This is a series of short stories, most of which have a sting in the tail. Some are based on the true experiences of the author; some have been embellished, and some are purely fictional. The first story, The Entomologist, is true, and the conversation, which is full of malapropisms, actually occurred. Frappin’ the Wurzel, on the other hand, is entirely a figment of the author’s imagination. It depicts George, a bucolic Arcadian in a small English pub, who in an effort to maintain his reputation as the village prankster exploits the very obvious charms of an American tourist—an activity that would probably get him thrown in goal in a more enlightened society. Spider Loves Me and a Near Gaff introduces pathos into the mix, and most of the other stories have an unexpected ending that may intrigue or amuse the reader. The title of this book was inadvertently suggested to me by a charming lady while I was giving a talk to a library group. I had been narrating various yarns of events that had occurred during my lifetime and my audience appeared to enjoy them. During the tea break, the lady approached me remarking, “You are a storyteller!” I placed the wrong connotation on her comment and protested that they were all true. She hurriedly corrected my misunderstanding saying that she enjoyed my tales and that I should set them down in a book; this I have done. Many of the stories have an element of truth, painfully so. However, some are figments of my imagination, and some have been enhanced to give them humor or pathos. Most have a twist in the tale that may surprise or amuse the reader. I do hope you enjoy them.

Book Description
From the author of Man Booker Prize–winning Schindler’s Ark Palestinian terrorists hijack a flight from New York bound for Frankfurt that holds an unusual group of passengers: a troupe of dancers from the aboriginal Australian Barramatjara tribe. The hijackers single out Frank McCloud, the troupe’s Caucasian manager, as an “Exploiter of Landless People” and attempt to persuade the dancers to join their cause. Whose side will they take? What do the other passengers—a conservative Japanese-American woman, a Fleet Street–journalist, and a Jewish software engineer—have to say about the hijackers message? As the airliner searches for a landing place in the Mediterranean, Keneally examines how the hijackers and hijacked alike respond under pressure in this explosive novel, which will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Book Description
This volume considers world-making as the intersection of the fan pilgrimage experience and the responses of destinations. It critically examines the emerging field of popular culture tourism and its close connection with fan studies and placemaking. The chapters illustrate how different destinations capitalise on expressive cultural practices to attract fan tourists, the processes involved in their tourismification, and the outcomes for both visitors and local communities. The book establishes a common ground for the comprehensive and critical study of popular culture tourism development and fandom. It integrates theory and practice and provides evidence-based recommendations for popular culture destinations. It is a useful resource for researchers in tourism management, fandom, pop culture and media studies, as well as for those working in the tourism industry.

Book Description
When James accidentally swerves into an elderly woman with his car, he is mortified. But for his girlfriend, Kate, it’s a wake-up call: What is she doing with this man, twenty-five years her senior, who forgets his glasses and knocks an old lady off her bike? James’s lifelong friend Hugh is faring little better with his seemingly perfect and significantly younger wife Julia. Once one of Britain’s most famous newsmen, Hugh sees his star fading—just as Julia’s is rising through a lucrative new TV career. Four people—the men and the girls—each struggle with discontent as two relationships teeter on the brink. Add to the mix one fiercely independent spinster named Miss Bachelor, and what transpires will alter all of their lives forever, as new relationships blossom, old insecurities surface, and homes and fortunes are turned upside down.

Book Description
Being able to talk to ponies isn't all that it's cracked up to be. It's show time! The riders for Laurel Farm Stables are chosen to perform at a popular charity event and everyone is thrilled—everyone except the ponies. The ponies are on strike! and Pia's horse, Drummer, is leading the rebellion. Their routine is so disasterous that Pia's other problems (like trying to hide her crush on James) seem totally unimportant. And now everyone expects Pia to talk some sense in to the stubborn ponies. Will Pia's pony-whispering powers be enough to save the show? "Entertainingly, the ponies converse much like their human owners, and Pia's popularity at her new school surges when her gift becomes known. Complications ensue, but Pia is a likable and sensible narrator throughout."—Booklist, review for The Pony Whisperer: The Word on the Yard
