The Index originated with 23 titles as a quarterly publication in 1949 and has continued on a quarterly basis superseded by annual and tri ennial cumulative issues. From 1949 to 1962 it was published as Air University Periodical Index. Staff members in the Reader Services Division of Air University Library index the periodicals with the exception of eight titles which other Air Force, Army, and Navy libraries index. Air University Library Index to Military Periodicals serves primarily the educational and research programs of Air Uni versity. The Index is available to other libraries on exchange basis. This is the last issue to be published under the editorship of Miss Phillips. She has been editor for thirteen years and has recently been promoted to the position of Chief of the Documents Systems Branch in AU Library.
