Book Description
Excerpt from Crops and Markets, Vol. 16: January 1939 Cash farm income and Government payments to farmers in 1938 are estimated by the Bureau of Agricultural Economics at $7, 632, compared with the revised estimate of $8, 574, for 1937 and with $7, 944, for 1936. The esti mates of income include receipts from sales of farm products, Government payments to farmers during the calendar year, and loans, minus redemptions, on wheat, corn, and cotton. Cash farm income estimates have been prepared annually since 1924 and have ranged from $4, 328, 000, 000 in the depression year 1932 to $10, 000 in 1929. The decline of $942, 000, 000, or 11 percent, in cash farm in come from 1937 to 1938 was due to a decline of 18 percent in income from crops and 9 percent in income from livestock and livestock products. Government payments in 1938 of $482, 000, 000 were 31 percent higher than in 1937, and helped to offset the decline in income from farm marketings.'
