Book Description
Adhesive Bonding in Five Steps Adhesive bonding is a low-heat joining technique and capable of joining virtually all technically usable materials together in a two-dimensional manner. The bond created by an adhesive is built up very gently, since the bonding process requires neither high heat – as with welding or soldering – nor structurally weakening holes – as with riveting or screwing. Since the bond is usually applied over a large area, it also ensures a relatively uniform stress distribution in the component. Using a clearly structured 5-step management system, this book provides detailed instructions for the steps required to set up a stable process for producing a safe and high-quality bonded component. The focus is on the treatment of the material surfaces to be bonded, the selection of suitable adhesives, the dimensioning of the bond, and the process steps for metering/mixing and curing the adhesives. The user is thus presented with sustainable materials as well as modern bonding processes. Here, the special focus is on the suitable methods for surface treatment of the substrates, the adhesives to be used and the processing methods to be employed relevant for the manufacture of bonded components in industry and trade.

Book Description
For several years, I have been responsible for organizing and teaching in the fall a short course on "Fundamentals of Adhesion: Theory, Practice, and Applications" at the State University of New York at New Paltz. Every spring I would try to assemble the most pertinent subjects and line up several capable lecturers for the course. However, there has always been one thing missing-an authoritative book that covers most aspects of adhesion and adhesive bonding. Such a book would be used by the participants as a main reference throughout the course and kept as a sourcebook after the course had been completed. On the other hand, this book could not be one of those "All you want to know about" volumes, simply because adhesion is an interdisciplinary and ever-growing field. For the same reason, it would be very difficult for a single individual, especially me, to undertake the task of writing such a book. Thus, I relied on the principle that one leaves the truly monumental jobs to experts, and I finally succeeded in asking several leading scientists in the field of adhesion to write separate chapters for this collection. Some chapters emphasize theoretical concepts and others experimental techniques. In the humble beginning, we planned to include only twelve chapters. However, we soon realized that such a plan would leave too much ground uncovered, and we resolved to increase the coverage. After the book had evolved into thirty chapters, we started to feel that perhaps our mission had been accomplished.

Book Description
Joining of Materials and Structures is the first and only complete and highly readable treatment of the options for joining conventional materials and the structures they comprise in conventional and unconventional ways, and for joining emerging materials and structures in novel ways. Joining by mechanical fasteners, integral designed-or formed-in features, adhesives, welding, brazing, soldering, thermal spraying, and hybrid processes are addressed as processes and technologies, as are issues associated with the joining of metals, ceramics (including cement and concrete) glass, plastics, and composites (including wood), as well as, for the first time anywhere, living tissue. While focused on materials issues, issues related to joint design, production processing, quality assurance, process economics, and joint performance in service are not ignored. The book is written for engineers, from an in-training student to a seasoned practitioner by an engineer who chose to teach after years of practice.
