Book Description
The study of nonlinear dynamical systems has exploded in the past 25 years, and Robert L. Devaney has made these advanced research developments accessible to undergraduate and graduate mathematics students as well as researchers in other disciplines with the introduction of this widely praised book. In this second edition of his best-selling text, Devaney includes new material on the orbit diagram fro maps of the interval and the Mandelbrot set, as well as striking color photos illustrating both Julia and Mandelbrot sets. This book assumes no prior acquaintance with advanced mathematical topics such as measure theory, topology, and differential geometry. Assuming only a knowledge of calculus, Devaney introduces many of the basic concepts of modern dynamical systems theory and leads the reader to the point of current research in several areas.

Book Description
Functional Equations and Inequalities with Applications presents a comprehensive, nearly encyclopedic, study of the classical topic of functional equations. This self-contained monograph explores all aspects of functional equations and their applications to related topics, such as differential equations, integral equations, the Laplace transformation, the calculus of finite differences, and many other basic tools in analysis. Each chapter examines a particular family of equations and gives an in-depth study of its applications as well as examples and exercises to support the material.

Book Description
This text focuses on a variety of topics in mathematics in common usage in graduate engineering programs including vector calculus, linear and nonlinear ordinary differential equations, approximation methods, vector spaces, linear algebra, integral equations and dynamical systems. The book is designed for engineering graduate students who wonder how much of their basic mathematics will be of use in practice. Following development of the underlying analysis, the book takes students through a large number of examples that have been worked in detail. Students can choose to go through each step or to skip ahead if they so desire. After seeing all the intermediate steps, they will be in a better position to know what is expected of them when solving assignments, examination problems, and when on the job. Chapters conclude with exercises for the student that reinforce the chapter content and help connect the subject matter to a variety of engineering problems. Students have grown up with computer-based tools including numerical calculations and computer graphics; the worked-out examples as well as the end-of-chapter exercises often use computers for numerical and symbolic computations and for graphical display of the results.

Book Description
The main content of this book is related to construction of analytical solutions of differential equations and systems of mathematical physics, to development of analytical methods for solving boundary value problems for such equations and the study of properties of their solutions. A wide class of equations (elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic) is considered here, on the basis of which complex wave processes in biological and physical media can be simulated. The method of generalized functions presented in the book for solving boundary value problems of mathematical physics is universal for constructing solutions of boundary value problems for systems of linear differential equations with constant coefficients of any type. In the last sections of the book, the issues of calculating functions based on Padé approximations, binomial expansions, and fractal representations are considered. The book is intended for specialists in the field of mathematical and theoretical physics, mechanics and biophysics, students of mechanics, mathematics, physics and biology departments of higher educational institutions.

Book Description
The Handbook of Graph Algorithms, Volume II : Applications focuses on a wide range of algorithmic applications, including graph theory problems. The book emphasizes new algorithms and approaches that have been triggered by applications. The approaches discussed require minimal exposure to related technologies in order to understand the material. Each chapter is devoted to a single application area, from VLSI circuits to optical networks to program graphs, and features an introduction by a pioneer researcher in that particular field. The book serves as a single-source reference for graph algorithms and their related applications.

Book Description
An authorised reissue of the long out of print classic textbook, Advanced Calculus by the late Dr Lynn Loomis and Dr Shlomo Sternberg both of Harvard University has been a revered but hard to find textbook for the advanced calculus course for decades. This book is based on an honors course in advanced calculus that the authors gave in the 1960's. The foundational material, presented in the unstarred sections of Chapters 1 through 11, was normally covered, but different applications of this basic material were stressed from year to year, and the book therefore contains more material than was covered in any one year. It can accordingly be used (with omissions) as a text for a year's course in advanced calculus, or as a text for a three-semester introduction to analysis. The prerequisites are a good grounding in the calculus of one variable from a mathematically rigorous point of view, together with some acquaintance with linear algebra. The reader should be familiar with limit and continuity type arguments and have a certain amount of mathematical sophistication. As possible introductory texts, we mention Differential and Integral Calculus by R Courant, Calculus by T Apostol, Calculus by M Spivak, and Pure Mathematics by G Hardy. The reader should also have some experience with partial derivatives. In overall plan the book divides roughly into a first half which develops the calculus (principally the differential calculus) in the setting of normed vector spaces, and a second half which deals with the calculus of differentiable manifolds.
