Book Description
In this paper, two distinct types of adaptive inferential control strategies for the single-input/single-output (SISO) system of the pacjed-bed reactor are investigated, i.e., the State Feedback Control (SFC) scheme and the Internal Model Control (IMC) scheme, to deal with the nonlinear and time-varying process control problems. The SFC scheme is developed by a nonlinear controller which is derived from steady-state reactor model, and the IMC scheme by a linear controller which consists of an inverse of the transfer function of the process model and a filter with adjustable paremeters. The basic structure of an adaptive inferential control system is coupled with a nonlinear state estimator and an on-line parameter. Simulation results have shown that the performances of the SFC scheme are much better than those of the IMC scheme. [Authors' abstract].

Nonlinear Model-based Process Control
Author: Rashid M. Ansari
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 144710739X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 248
Book Description
The series Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage technology transfer in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. New theory, new controllers, actuators, sensors, new industrial processes, computer methods, new applications, new philosophies ... , new challenges. Much of this development work resides in industrial reports, feasibility study papers and the reports of advanced collaborative projects. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of such new work in all aspects of industrial control for wider and rapid dissemination. The last decade has seen considerable interest in reviving the fortunes of non linear control. In contrast to the approaches of the 60S, 70S and 80S a very pragmatic agenda for non-linear control is being pursued using the model-based predictive control paradigm. This text by R. Ansari and M. Tade gives an excellent synthesis of this new direction. Two strengths emphasized by the text are: (i) four applications found in refinery processes are used to give the text a firm practical continuity; (ii) a non-linear model-based control architecture is used to give the method a coherent theoretical framework.

Control of Distributed Parameter Systems
Author: S. P. Banks
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483151123
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 554
Book Description
Control of Distributed Parameter Systems covers the proceedings of the Second IFAC Symposium, Coventry, held in Great Britain from June 28 to July 1, 1977. The book focuses on the methodologies, processes, and techniques in the control of distributed parameter systems, including boundary value control, digital transfer matrix, and differential equations. The selection first discusses the asymptotic methods in the optimal control of distributed systems; applications of distributed parameter control theory of a survey; and dual variational inequalities for external eigenvalue problems. The book also ponders on stochastic differential equations in Hilbert space and their application to delay systems and linear quadratic optimal control problem over an infinite time horizon for a class of distributed parameter systems. The manuscript investigates the semigroup approach to boundary value control and stability of nonlinear distributed parameter systems. Topics include boundary control action implemented through a dynamical system; classical boundary value controls; stability of nonlinear systems; and feedback control on the boundary. The text also focuses on the functional analysis interpretation of Lyapunov stability; method of multipliers for a class distributed parameter systems; and digital transfer matrix approach to distributed system simulation. The selection is a dependable source of data for readers interested in the control of distributed parameter systems.
