Book Description
This is a dual-language book, formatted with an English translation in the front and Spanish translation in the back. The Hispanic/Latino community is a blessing from God for the Church and for our country. During the last few decades in particular, Hispanics/Latinos have reinvigorated the life and mission of thousands of parishes and other Catholic institutions and organizations. Missionary Disciples Going Forth with Joy: National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministry addresses the entire Church in the United States and seeks to strengthen the Church's response to the Hispanic/Latino presence, while embracing and fostering the contributions of Hispanic/Latino Catholics as missionary disciples serving the entire People of God. This document from the U.S. bishops comes in direct response to the priorities, recommendations, and pastoral insights generated during the V National Encuentro for Hispanic/Latino Ministry. Given the ongoing growth of the Hispanic/Latino population across the country, the establishment of Hispanic/Latino ministry in more parishes and other pastoral settings is a high priority. Included in the National Pastoral Plan are the following: The vision and pastoral guidelines that provide a strong foundation for Hispanic/Latino ministry intended for pastoral ministers and educators Pastoral strategies and priorities for dioceses, parishes, regions, and other pastoral settings for pastoral ministers at various levels of experience in Hispanic/Latino ministry National objectives and activities, led by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, for implementation over the next ten years Este es un libro en dos idiomas, formateado con una traducción al inglés al principio y una traducción al español al final.

Book Description
A collection of 13 articles from the October 2021 edition of La Civiltà Cattolica, the highly respected and oldest Catholic journal published from Rome. Our October issue has the latest in our popular series of articles on Pope Francis’ meetings with local Jesuits during his travels. From Myanmar and Thailand to Japan, to Peru and Panama the pope takes time to meet his brother Jesuits. The latest meeting was in Bratislava, Slovakia. Along with an account of the meeting our editor in chief Antonio Spadaro has penned another of the journey to Hungary and Slovakia. We have two articles on Afghanistan, one by our Russian correspondent Vladimir Pachkov, SJ who considers the future for Afghanistan amid the renewal of the Great Game. The second by our popular American correspondent Drew Christiansen, who delivers again with a summary of US domestic opinion. We have a piece by Irish theologian Brian O’Leary The Mysticism of Ignatius of Loyola that continues our contribution to the Ignatian Year. Combatting Throwaway Culture by Wilfred Sumani from Hekima College, Kenya reminds us we grow all the food we need to feed the global population but almost a third is lost or wasted! So how do we combat this? Giovanni Cucci continues his series on the virtues in Thomas Aquinas on Justice. Federico Lombardi provides a concise review of the new Vademecum for cases of sexual abuse and the reform of canonical criminal law.

Book Description
The ordinary episcopal visitation of parishes, treated in canons 396-398 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, is studied here from its origins to the present. The dissertation’s first chapter traces the historical development of this ancient canonical institute, particularly with a view to showing its usefulness for Church reform. The second examines the canons of the 1917 and 1983 codes and provides a detailed commentary on the latter. A final chapter studies the visitation of parishes in Canada. Three methods are used, corresponding to the three chapters. In the first chapter, a primarily historical review draws on Scripture, the Fathers, papal legislation, the decrees of provincial and ecumenical councils (particularly the Council of Trent), and other sources. The second chapter takes an exegetical approach, interpreting the 1983 canons on the visitation in light of the former law, the Second Vatican Council, and contemporary papal and curial documents. The visitation is related to the diocesan bishop’s power of governance. The third chapter presents the results of the author’s survey of Canadian bishops, carried out according to the methods of social science research. Without arguing that the visitation is a panacea for all the Church’s ills, the author concludes that it is a highly effective way for bishops to address some present difficulties and avoid future ones.
