Book Description
MRA established a partnership with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, IL, to develop a nationally touring mobile exhibit that depicts the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln. This mobile exhibit was an interactive, authentic presentation of Lincoln's story, appealing to people of all ages. The goal of the tour was twofold: first, to pay special tribute to the bicentennial of the birth of Abraham Lincoln and second, to encourage visitation to the Museum's permanent location in Springfield. The mobile exhibit was housed in a 53' double expandable semi-tractor trailer. The 1,000 square feet of exhibition space contained replicas of historical documents and artifacts that focused on the essence of Lincoln's life. The exhibit touched on all aspects of Lincoln's legacy: education, law, leadership, politics and public service. Sections of the exhibit featured highlights of his family life, presidency, and finally his assassination and funeral, an event that mesmerized a nation at a time when breaking news did not exist. The outside graphics of the trailer included a custom mural designed to communicate the dynamic theme of the exhibition, Abraham Lincoln: Self-Made in America.
