Book Description
With only a change of clothes eleven-year-old Bao Dang and his cousin Binh Pham, embark on their journey to America, fleeing the oppressive government in South Vietnam, circa 1980. The two covertly travel at night by a small boat down the Saigon River to open waters, where they and over 100 other "boat people" pack into a traveler, designed to hold fewer than thirty. For six grueling days, they avoid police and pirates and face the constant threat of capsizing while living on rationed rice and water. Eventually, they all find a safe haven and refugee camp in Indonesia. There, Bao harnesses the power of music to endure months of harsh living as he and Binh await the ultimate gift: Freedom.

Book Description
When 'Hymns and Arias' rang out at Cardiff Arms Park some fifty years ago, those great Welsh anthems 'Calon Lân' and 'Cwm Rhondda' had found a companion and the valleys of south Wales had produced a new folk hero. From his early days touring the folk clubs and small concert halls of his native south Wales to sell-out shows at some of the world's most iconic venues, including the Albert Hall, the London Palladium and the opera houses of Sydney and Durban, Max has become an original and treasured performer whose songs and stories have become part of folk culture. His albums, including the No. 1 album We All Had Doctors' Papers and the iconic Live at Treorchy, have sold in their millions and earned him several gold discs. His greatest influence has always been the Valleys of Wales, with their inherent warmth and humour, their sadness and passion, and he has the remarkable ability to heighten, to an art form, the 'hwyl' that attends his nation's national game: rugby union. Compiling – in some instances for the first time in print – the very best songs, poems and stories from across his celebrated career, Max Boyce: Hymns & Arias is the definitive selected work of a major cultural figure who, through his inimitable humour, uniquely Welsh pathos and masterful wordcraft, has defined a nation and its people for more than half a century.

Book Description
The Swansea Battalion was formed from local men by the Mayor of Swansea in the response to Lord Kitcheners famous appeal for volunteers. This, the first full history of the Battalion, covers early recruiting for the battalion in the Swansea area and its subsequent training in Swansea, Rhyl and Winchester, prior to departure, some 1,200 strong, in December 1915 for the Western Front. As part of the 38th Welsh Division it participated in the attack on Mametz Wood on the Somme where, in a single day, it suffered almost 100 men killed and 300 wounded out of an attacking contingent of less than 700. A further very successful raid on the German held High Command Redoubt was followed by front line service in the dreaded Ypres Salient. Here it took part in the bloody third Battle of Ypres, better known today as the Passchendaele Offensive. At Aveluy Wood it was accidentally shelled by its own artillery, suffering a number of fatalities. The Swansea Battalion then took an active part in the battles that finally broke the Hindenburg Line and the spirit of German resistance, one of its exploits being described as the high point of soldierly achievement by Douglas Haig. It was still advancing when the Armistice was signed in November 1918.

Book Description
The author is known throughout the world for his daring exploits in the world of sailing. This book gives us a glimpse of his memoirs and experiences that make crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a "18 foot boat seem easy". With a British sense of humor, he tells us his early memories of home, of private schools and the second World War, when he served in the British Expeditionary Force in France and commanded an anti aircraft site with 100 men and 100 women defending London against German bombers. Then a notice said: " VOLUNTEERS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED TO DROP ALONE BY PARACHUTE BEHIND THE ENEMY LINES." So he volunteered and went through Spy School, learning Burglary, Forgery, knife fighting and other useful tools and techniques. His work in German occupied France for the Special Executive was "Top Secret" and could not be told for 50 years until he wrote "Things I Remember". He then joined Force 136 in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and was preparing to parachute into Singapore when the atom bombs were dropped and the war ended. Fasten your seat belts for a roller coaster ride, with laughter and terror, through 20 years of one man's life.
