Category : Algorithms

Pages : 30
Book Description
A spectral method algorithm is developed for the numerical solution of the full six-dimensional Vlasov-Maxwell system of equations. Here, the focus is on the electron ditribution function, with positive ions providing a constant background. The algorithm consists of a Jacobi polynomial-spherical harmonic formulation in velocity space and a trigonometric formulation in position space. A transform procedure is used to evaluate nonlinear terms. The algorithm is suitable for performing moderate resolution simulations on currently available supercomputers for both scientific and engineering applications.

The Cauchy Problem in Kinetic Theory
Author: Robert T. Glassey
Publisher: SIAM
ISBN: 0898713676
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 246
Book Description
Studies the basic equations of kinetic theory in all of space, and contains up-to-date, state-of-the-art treatments of initial-value problems for the major kinetic equations. This is the only existing book to treat Boltzmann-type problems and Vlasov-type problems together. Although describing very different phenomena, these equations share the same streaming term.

Plasma Physics via Computer Simulation
Author: C.K. Birdsall
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1482263068
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 504
Book Description
Divided into three main parts, the book guides the reader to an understanding of the basic concepts in this fascinating field of research. Part 1 introduces you to the fundamental concepts of simulation. It examines one-dimensional electrostatic codes and electromagnetic codes, and describes the numerical methods and analysis. Part 2 explores the mathematics and physics behind the algorithms used in Part 1. In Part 3, the authors address some of the more complicated simulations in two and three dimensions. The book introduces projects to encourage practical work Readers can download plasma modeling and simulation software — the ES1 program — with implementations for PCs and Unix systems along with the original FORTRAN source code. Now available in paperback, Plasma Physics via Computer Simulation is an ideal complement to plasma physics courses and for self-study.

Global Pseudo-differential Calculus on Euclidean Spaces
Author: Fabio Nicola
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 376438512X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 309
Book Description
This book presents a global pseudo-differential calculus in Euclidean spaces, which includes SG as well as Shubin classes and their natural generalizations containing Schroedinger operators with non-polynomial potentials. This calculus is applied to study global hypoellipticity for several pseudo-differential operators. The book includes classic calculus as a special case. It will be accessible to graduate students and of benefit to researchers in PDEs and mathematical physics.
