Book Description
The essays assembled in this volume are a thoughtful and lively commentary on Europe after the revolution of 1989. Must revolutions fail? Certainly, the open society has its own problems, not least that of citizens in search of meaning. The Good Society has to square the circle of prosperity, civility and liberty. Social science can help us understand what needs to be done, and intellectuals have a responsibility to initiate and accompany change. All this raises questions for Europe which extend far beyond the all too narrow confines of the European Union.

Book Description
The lines have been drawn. On one side are young earth creationists, who assert that God created the universe in six days and—based on calculations derived from the Bible—that the earth is six thousand years old. On the other side are secular scientists, who claim the universe has existed for over thirteen billion years, the earth for 4.5 billion. Scientists claim that no miracles were necessary to form the universe, and that everything is explained by natural causes. However, young earth creationists point to verses at the beginning of the Bible and the beginning of the book of John that clearly claim that God created the universe. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Genesis 1:1–2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. John 1:1–3 But what if there is no contradiction between scientific data and the Bible? Arnold Guyot was a nineteenth-century geologist and geographer at Princeton University. In addition to his numerous scientific accomplishments, he developed the day-age interpretation of Genesis 1, in which the "days" of creation represent geologic ages. When we view the Bible through this lens, we find that modern science has not only failed to refute the miracles of Genesis, but has in fact provided abundant evidence for their veracity. Genesis Revealed: A Scientific Examination of the Creation Story takes readers down the twin paths of science and theology to show that they lead us to the same destination. Citing a multitude of discoveries in astronomy and geology, Dr. Peter Waller makes a compelling case for Guyot’s interpretation—and for the miracles described in Genesis 1:1–25.

Book Description
This Brief aims to provide a theoretically innovative introduction to the methodology of the human sciences. It presents a new version of methodology, as a system of mutually linked acts of creating knowledge where both abstract and concrete features of research are intricately intertwined. It shows how the constructions of particular methods that are used in the science of psychology are interdependent with general psychology. This is exemplified as the Methodology Cycle. The need for an emphasis on the Methodology Cycle grows out of the habitual presentation of methods as if they were independent from the assumptions which they are built upon, with the ultimate goal of searching for and creating universal principles. Chapters discuss the Methodology Cycle and its uses in various areas of empirical study in psychological functions. Featured topics in this Brief include: The strict separation between methodology and methods. Introspection, the primary method of psychology. Extrospection, the act of introspection turned outwards. Generalization and its effect on uniqueness. From Methodology to Methods in Human Psychology will be of interest to psychologists, undergraduate and graduate students, and researchers.

Book Description
This book contains a series of outstanding contributions on ecodynamics that appeared in limited editions before the emergence of the International Journal of Design & Nature and Ecodynamics, which has now become the primary focus for this area of research. The aim of ecodynamics is to relate ecosystems to evolutionary thermodynamics, which can lead to appropriate solutions for sustainable development. The contributions published in this volume relate to all aspects of ecosystems and sustainable development, ranging from physical sciences to economics and epistemology. The world of ecosystems has been dominated by the towering personality of Ilya Prigogine to whom this volume is dedicated. The first article is an extract from his autobiography written shortly before he died.Prigogine's ideas are directly reflected in many of the contributions in this volume. He helped set up numerous research groups all around the world, including that at Siena University headed by the late Enzo Tiezzi. He also influenced the work of Sven Jorgensen, Bernard Patten, Robert Ulanowicz, Simone Bastianoni, Nadia Marchettini, Ricardo Pulselli, T-S Chon, to name just a few amongst the many authors contributing to this volume. This compilation of influential papers currently unavailable in the open literature will make an important contribution to the field of ecodynamics.
