It shows how, after his death, his written records were preserved by his private secretary, Frederick Wyatt, and his colporteur, Alfred Fry. It also gives pictures and brief accounts of some of his close associates in the later stages of his ministry. Most of this material has never before appeared in print. This booklet is a supplement to the definitive 'Guide to the Works and Remains of Benjamin Wills Newton'. It is the fruit of many years of recovering primary material regarding him. It adds human interest to Mr Newton's life and writing, and so brings us closer to the man himself.

Most notably, he dedicated more than 60 years of his life to the study of the prophetic Scriptures. This Guide has been more than 40 years in preparation and presents the results of much investigation of primary sources, some of which have been recovered as a result the researches of the author. It provides an index of nearly 500 titles of published works, articles in periodicals, and posthumous articles attributed to him. It lists and assesses any anonymous published material of which B.W. Newton has been suggested as the author. It identifies the libraries and collections where B.W. Newton's published works are principally located and where other records have been preserved. It provides an exhaustive bibliography of his published works, which summarises each publication and provides details of editions and where original copies are located. There is an in depth analysis of the editions of his most important works. The Guide also gives an extensive catalogue of posthumously published notes of addresses, letters, and manuscripts attributed to him. The second half of the Guide describes manuscript and typescript material, and ephemera that have survived. Most importantly this gives a chronological listing and summary of all known correspondence from him, to him, and in some cases regarding him - 500 items are recorded. In the year of the death of king Uzziah, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filling the temple. I saw the Lord seated on a throne. Compare Rev. iv.. " Behold there was a throne set in heaven, and on the throne One seated." Heaven, not earth, was the place where John beheld the Divine glory; for the Temple of Israel, where Isaiah saw it, had been left desolate. " Behold, your House is left unto you desolate." The glory once present in the earth had been withdrawn and was hidden in the heavens, as it still is, though in due season to return. See Ezekiel xliii. 2. The vision granted to John was far fuller than that seen by Isaiah; for Isaiah lived before the work of redemption had been wrought out, and therefore the time was not come for the fulness of its results to be declared. Consequently, around the Throne, as seen by Isaiah, were no symbolic Cherubim, no enthroned crowned Elders, symbolizing the place soon to be occupied by the redeemed in glory. The holiness of the God of Israel in contrast with the uncleanness of those who professed to be His people, was the thought intended to be pressed home on the heart of Isaiah; and he trembled. Yet his terror was but for a moment. Grace caused him to apprehend his relation to the Throne in peace through the power of atoning sacrifice, and John himself, notwithstanding his far greater light and knowledge, had no better title than Isaiah to say that his iniquity was " gone, and his sin atoned for." Yet it is a duty, if in such efforts any deflexion from God's revealed Truth be traceable. The Spirit of holiness is also the Spirit of Truth. He cannot swerve from that which He has Himself spoken. The Scripture is His testimony; consequently, the authority of the Scripture, and the authority of the Holy Ghost, are co-equal. Every divergence, therefore, from the testimony of the Holy Ghost, must be anxiously withstood. Bunyan's Pilgrim found that paths which seemed, at first, to run almost parallel to the king's highway, became utterly divergent at last. "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
