Book Description
Applications such as animation and scientific visualization demand high performance rendering of complex three dimensional scenes. To deliver the necessary rendering rates, highly parallel hardware architectures are required. The challenge is then to design algorithms and software which effectively use the hardware parallelism. A rendering algorithm targeted to distributed memory MIMD architectures is described. For maximum performance, the algorithm exploits both object-level and pixel-level parallelism. The behavior of the algorithm is examined both analytically and experimentally. Its performance for large numbers of processors is found to be limited primarily by communication overheads. An experimental implementation for the Intel iPSC/860 shows increasing performance from 1 to 128 processors across a wide range of scene complexities. It is shown that minimal modifications to the algorithm will adapt it for use on shared memory architectures as well. Book Description
This book contains mainly a selection of papers that were presented at the International Workshop on High Performance Computing/or Computer Graphics and Visualisation, held in Swansea, United Kingdom on 3-4 July 1995. The workshop was sponsored by the HEFCWI Initiative on ·Parallel Computing - Foundations and Applications·, and it has provided the international computer graphics community with a platform for: • assessing and reviewing the impact of the development of high performance computing on the progress of computer graphics and visualisation; • presenting the current use of high performance computing architecture and software tools in computer graphics and visualisation, and the development of parallel graphics algorithms; • identifying potential high performance computing applications in computer graphics and visualisation, and encouraging members of the graphics community to think about their problems from the perspective of parallelism. The book is divided into six sections. The first section, which acts as the introduction of the book, gives an overview of the current state of the art It contains a comprehensive survey, by Whitman, of parallel algorithms for computer graphics and visualisation; and a discussion, by Hansen, on the past, present and future high performance computing applications in computer graphics and visualisation. The second section is focused on the design and implementation of high performance architecture, software tools and algorithms for surface rendering.

Book Description
This book contains the proceedings of the International Workshop on Volume Graphics 200 1 (VG'O I) which took place on June 21 and June 22 at Stony Brook, New York. This year's event was the second in the series, following a successful premiere in Swansea, Wales, in March 1999, and was co-sponsored by the IEEE Technical Committee on Visualization and Graphics (TC-VG) as well as EUROGRAPHICS. The Volume Graphics Workshop is held bi-annually and has been created to pro vide a forum for the exploration and advancement of volume-based techniques, beyond the scope of just volume visualization. It brings together researchers and practitioners both from academia and industry, from many parts of the world. Volume graphics is in the process of evolving into a general graphics technology, and the papers included in these proceedings are testimonial to the wide spectrum of unique applications and solu tions that volumetric representations are able to offer.

Book Description
Annotation The four-volume set LNCS 4487-4490 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Computational Science, ICCS 2007, held in Beijing, China in May 2007. More than 2400 submissions were made to the main conference and its 35 topical workshops. The 80 revised full papers and 11 revised short papers of the main track were carefully reviewed and selected from 360 submissions and are presented together with 624 accepted workshop papers in four volumes. According to the ICCS 2007 theme "Advancing Science and Society through Computation" the papers cover a large volume of topics in computational science and related areas, from multiscale physics, to wireless networks, and from graph theory to tools for program development. The papers are arranged in topical sections on efficient data management, parallel monte carlo algorithms, simulation of multiphysics multiscale systems, dynamic data driven application systems, computer graphics and geometric modeling, computer algebra systems, computational chemistry, computational approaches and techniques in bioinformatics, computational finance and business intelligence, geocomputation, high-level parallel programming, networks theory and applications, collective intelligence for semantic and knowledge grid, collaborative and cooperative environments, tools for program development and analysis in CS, intelligent agents in computing systems, CS in software engineering, computational linguistics in HCI, internet computing in science and engineering, workflow systems in e-science, graph theoretic algorithms and applications in cs, teaching CS, high performance data mining, mining text, semi-structured, Web, or multimedia data, computational methods in energy economics, risk analysis, advances in computational geomechanics and geophysics, meta-synthesis and complex systems, scientific computing in electronics engineering, wireless and mobile systems, high performance networked media and services, evolution toward next generation internet, real time systems and adaptive applications, evolutionary algorithms and evolvable systems.
