One look. One taste. One distraction. AIDAN KEARNEY is desperate to escape—just for a little while. He never thought he’d be burying his older brother, but after that, slinging drinks for an old friend in a small pub is just what he needs. Make that ex-boyfriend. Her nursing degree is her chance to get her feet on solid ground. To find even just a hint of happiness. But the blessings she’s looking for are nowhere to be found. Until she stumbles into the arms of the new bartender. The accent. The intensity. The secrets. May your troubles be less, and your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door.

Author: William Francis Jack
Publisher: Lulu.com
ISBN: 1312089431
Category : Fiction

Book Description
David Alexander, an American professor of Russian, is called to task about an offhand remark he made concerning Tsar Boris Godunov, an historical figure portrayed as a villain and prince-murderer in history, as well as in literature and opera. David's remark precipitates an academic dispute, and his teaching job is on the line. So is his historical research into Russia's Cult of Sophia, which is part of the religious ideal of The Divine Feminine. His research takes him back to the early 1600's, and he and a Soviet archivist colleague chance upon long-concealed letters written by three Orthodox monks. The hunt is on for the long-suppressed mystical papers to which these monks refer. William Jack has an MA and PhD in Slavic Languages and Literature, with a specialization in Russian literature, from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Book Description
Johnathan Summary I did not know my father very well, I knew I was the apple of his eye and I knew in his own way he loved me with all his heart. I guess my father never really knew what love was or how to show this. Mum and dad divorced when I was four years old, I saw my father when he baby sat while Mum was working or when he tagged along on my Mum’s planned outings with the family. Although I was a lot closer to my Father than my Mum, there was so much no one spoke about and remained a mystery. In 2009 when he passed away this started to change. Being the eldest child I was left to clear out his belongings from the rest home he had been living in the past few years. I found a book he had written and never published, this book was called “Johnathan.” While reading the book I learnt that “Johnathan,” was the character of my Father, this was his whole life story till the age of 16. The mystery of my father unraveled as I learnt of his struggles growing up. The story starts in Yorkshire England in the 1940’s, at the age of four his father a Navy officer was called to fight as World War two broke out, leaving my father in their Mothers care, his older brother was moved off to boarding school. One night the famous Barton Docks were bombed, including the house they lived in and they were lucky to be pulled out alive! My father and his Mother moved to Manchester to live with his Aunty, time passed and his mother became more and more unwell, she was admitted to hospital for the foreseeable future. This left his elderly Aunty and Uncle to look after him, when his Uncle got sick and required more care the Aunty could no longer look after my father and sent him to a place called “Oxley Hall.” A Lord and Lady lived here and helped out families of Naval officers in need. It was not long before events beyond my fathers control meant he was kicked out and moved on again. My father was now moved half way across England to a place he refereed to as “The Institute.” My father it seemed had nowhere to call home, he suffered from loneliness and felt he didn’t belong anywhere at the tender age of just 14. The “Institute” was a strict old fashioned boy's home, which my father described as prison! No one was allowed to leave the isolated country premises unless they had a visitor or went home for the holidays. My father never received any visitors and had no where to go in the holidays he was stuck there! Until one day he decided to change that…

Trouble at Port Gamble
Author: Beryl Carpenter
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 1728340748
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 202
Book Description
Addie Murray Reagan, nineteen years old and already a widow, had grown up in the isolated community of Port Gamble, in Washington Territory. It was 1889. Her husband, Sam, a mill worker, died there the year before, his suspenders catching a protruding branch and pulling him into the huge circular blade. Addie needed a new start. Her wild fantasy of becoming a detective matched Pinkerton’s need for an undercover investigator whose presence in the small town would not arouse suspicion. Agent Jamison gave her ninety days to discover who was causing trouble. If she could only learn to handle the revolver Sam had given her! Timber was king in 1889 Washington Territory. Lumberjacks felled enormous trees, sending them downhill on skid roads to the shore where they were gathered as log rafts and towed to sawmills scattered along the coast of Puget Sound. They were sawn quickly, especially those stolen from another’s land claim. Mill workers were pressed hard during their 11- 1⁄2 hour shifts while contending with the dangerous steam powered saws and flammable sawdust. Some finally had enough. They demanded higher wages and safer conditions. Mr. Ames, the mill manager at Port Gamble, would not tolerate delay or reduced profits. He hired the Pinkerton Agency to identify the troublemakers. Mr. Hardy, mill foreman, would deal with them in his own way. Some of the loudest seemed to fall into the machinery. Greed, lust for power and status, anger, racism and Hell fire preaching mixed together in a cauldron of confusion. Clues don’t add up as Addie suspected problems existed far worse than labor unrest. Why had another mill worker died? Would Marcus help her? Maybe the Indian or the Chinese man knew something? Did the preacher’s dark secret play a role? Could she make sense of anything before another man died?
