Book Description
Since its acquisition and rebranding in 2018, TikTok has become one of the fastest growing platforms in the world. Moreover, it's the first Chinese-developed platform to find mainstream international success, carving its own niche in the global short video industry. In the first comprehensive exploration of TikTok, Kaye, Zeng, and Wikström provide a history of the emergent genre of short video and situate the platform within the cultures and controversies that have accompanied its dramatic growth. They provide an extensive overview of TikTok's functions and uses, the diverse markets in which the platform operates, and the issues of governance that have impacted its expansion. Once thought to be 'just for kids', the authors illustrate how TikTok is further transforming platform cultures and the dynamics of broader creative industries. TikTok, the authors argue, represents an evolutionary step in the way culture is produced and consumed on digital platforms. This timely book is essential reading for students and scholars in media and communication studies and for anyone who has been captivated by the global growth of TikTok and short video.

Book Description
Scholarly responses to Henry Miller's works have never been numerous and for many years Miller was not a fashionable writer for literary studies. In fact, there exist only three collections of essays concerning Henry Miller's oeuvre. Since these books appeared, a new generation of international Miller scholars has emerged, one that is re-energizing critical readings of this important American Modernist. Henry Miller: New Perspectives presents new essays on carefully chosen themes within Miller and his intellectual heritage to form the most authoritative collection ever published on this author.

Book Description
In Building Bridges, Stuart A. Pizer gives much-needed recognition to the central role of negotiation in the analytic relationship and in the therapeutic process. Building on a Winnicottian perspective that comprehends paradox as the condition for preserving an intrapsychic and relational “potential space,” Pizer explores how the straddling of paradox requires an ongoing process of negotiation and demonstrates how such negotiation articulates the creative potential within the potential space of analysis. Following careful review of Winnicott’s perspective on paradox—via the pairings of privacy and interrelatedness, isolation and interdependence, ruthlessness and concern, and the notion of transitional phenomena—Pizer locates these elemental paradoxes within the negotiations of an analytic process. Together, he observes, analyst and patient negotiate the boundaries, potentials, limits, tonalities, resistances, and meanings that determine the course of their clinical dialogue. Elaborating on the theme of a multiply constituted, “distributed” self, Pizer presents a model for the tolerance of paradox as a developmental achievement related to ways in which caretakers function as “transitional mirrors.” He then explores the impact of trauma and dissociation on the child’s ability to negotiate paradox and clarifies how negotiation of paradox differs from negotiation of conflict. Pizer also broadens the scope of his study by turning to negotiation theory and practices in the disciplines of law, diplomacy, and dispute resolution. Enlivened by numerous clinical vignettes and a richly detailed chronicle of an analytic case from its earliest negotiations to termination,Building Bridges adds a significant dimension to theoretical understanding and clinical practice. Now republished as a Classic Edition with an Introduction by Donnel Stern, this book is altogether a psychoanalytic work of our time.

Book Description
A fascinating exploration of sexuality, pleasure and desire. Dr. Flaumenbaum, a gynaecologist and acupuncturist, draws on more than forty years of experience to explain how women today build their sexuality, why pleasure or even desire is so seldom present, and importantly how to remedy it. Her pioneering approach brings together gynaecology, Chinese medicine, psychoanalysis and transgenerational theory.Despite the sexual revolution of the 1970s, the prohibition of sexual pleasure and joy still exists, carried down from previous generations. Dr. Flaumenbaum explores how this plays out, how sexuality is formed, the difference and complementarity between being a mother and a woman and how love and feelings are not enough to switch on the sexual connection. Woman Desired, Woman Desiring provides case studies, covering a breadth of topics from gynaecological ailments to inherited social and cultural burdens.
