A Correlation Study of Methods of Matrix Structural Analysis
Author: Richard H. Gallagher
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483223671
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 132
Book Description
A Correlation Study of Methods of Matrix Structural Analysis describes the results of a survey and review of airframe matrix structural analysis. The book also explains concepts of force and displacement, as well as the techniques for determining the force-displacement properties of discrete elements employed in analytical idealizations of structures. The text investigates the results of extensive analyses of multiweb low aspect ratio wings, using past evaluative studies and idealizations contained in reports of the AGARD Structures and Materials Panel. The techniques describe in the Panel and other techniques in matrix structural analysis lead to identical formulations of the governing equations. The differences between various references with respect to idealization are independent of the formulation of the governing equations. The solutions to governing equations are precise solutions for the postulated discrete element system. The book also describes a recommended computer program development using whichever is more appropriate between a force approach or displacement approach to matrix structural analysis. The text is valuable for researchers in structural analysis, aeronautics, applied mechanics, and investigators of aircraft engineering.

Upper and Lower Bounds to Structural Deformations by Dual Analysis in Finite Elements
Author: G. Sander
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Boundary value problems
Languages : en
Pages : 330
Book Description
Extensive comparison studies were run on different idealizations and on the use of different types of finite elements for the analysis of a single spar, a rectangular section box beam, a multispar swept wing and a centrally loaded rectangular plate. The results indicate that the principle of a dual analysis, with its capability to provide upper and lower bounds to the structural deflections, is of practical value. Convergence in the deflection pattern, from above and from below, is equally satisfactory. Convergence and evaluation of the stress output is sometimes more difficult. However, the more sophisticated elements generate stresses that are simpler to interpret and less sensitive to the geometrical subdivision pattern. The report contains the theory of the conforming displacement models and stress-diffusing equilibrium models required for obtaining strain energy bounds, with a description of the models that were operational in the numerical studies. It also contains a description of the ASEF, direct stiffness type, program.
