Selected components from the social psychology theories of Rokeach's (1968) attitude and behavior theories, and Azjen and Fishbein's (1973) model were used to examine registered nurses' attitudes toward alcoholism and to note if those attitudes differed based on the type of patient care unit the nurse practices. Chappel's Substance Abuse Attitude Survey (SAAS) was the instrument used for data collection. Results indicated that registered nurses had overall positive attitudes toward alcoholism.
