A Christmas Picture Book: Season Eight
Author: Antoinette Stockenberg

Pages : 74
Book Description
Somehow, the need to be kind and generous and tolerant seems more urgent than ever, and that need was very much on my mind as I arranged my Christmas mantel village and imagined the story that would accompany it. When I was finished, I had to ask myself: is this really a Christmas story? And the answer is that -- in the truest spirit of this season of love and hope -- it is. The story this season: Mayor Pittman has lost his bid to become a United States senator. For the past few days he has been consulting with his advisors about the next step. Suddenly, in the thick of all the conflicting advice comes a call for the most urgent form of action:there has been a fire in the village. A Fire in the Village NOTE: This pictorial eBook contains large images and is designed to be viewed on an actual tablet, such as an Android based tablet or an iPad with the Google Play App installed. Viewing it on a tablet will allow the images to be enlarged and explored. The best way to view this pictorial eBook is in landscape mode with two columns displayed. In a two column display the images are quite small initially, but can be expanded to full screen size by tapping on them. I recommend that you download Season One first, which is free, to make sure that this type of eBook works well on your eReader.

A Christmas Picture Book: Season Four

Book Description
For a few years now, I've been adding tin-figure characters with their tin-figure tales to my mantel village each Christmas. After the holiday -- sometimes way too long after it -- I carefully pack everything and everyone away. And the following year, my little village of antique cardboard houses reappears and the tales continue. Most of the stories are happy ones, because, after all, most people are happy. But as in life, sometimes a deep sadness occurs. Recently the village lost the original inspiration behind it: Ted Althof, a brilliant man who became a mentor not only to me in this hobby but to a host of people around the country and the world who are charmed by the little cardboard collectibles, mostly built in Japan before WWII. It was Ted who gathered what scarce information exists about them and created an irresistible website called "Papa Ted's Place." Ted's website is filled with his thoughtful and wistful musings about childhood and Christmas, sprinkled among an astonishing array of vintage cardboard houses. You can spend whole days being enchanted in this online museum; I have a link in the introduction to this eBook that will take you there.. Papa Ted was Papa Christmas to many of us, and he is and will be dearly missed. My 2012 Christmas mantel is devoted to Ted, in fond memory. Book Description
My latest mantel village and its accompanying story celebrate their seventh anniversary this year, and no one is more surprised by that than I am. I hadn't intended to write so many chapters for so many years -- but it turns out that after arranging my little tin figures around my little cardboard houses, their stories just beg to be told. The funny thing is, the village arrangement comes first and the story grows from that. Isn't that backwards? I'm a writer; I should know the answer to that. In any case ... enjoy! Book Description
Visitors to my Christmas mantels quickly realize that I am seriously in love with the pre-WW II cardboard Christmas houses that so captivated Americans then and now. I don't own many of those houses because my mantel won't hold many -- and a good thing, too, because it seems a little silly to have to take out a second mortgage to buy a house made out of cardboard. Although a couple of the houses I have are rare, most of them are common. All of them are charming. And yet how can any village charm without villagers? Pre-war German tin figures (Zinnfiguren) match the scale of the houses -- the people can actually fit through the doors! -- and fairly beg someone to tell their tales. That's what I've been doing for a few years now in my continuing Christmas tale. So please, take a stroll through the village as it pays homage this year to: The Winter Olympics NOTE: This pictorial eBook contains large images and is designed to be viewed on an actual tablet, such as an Android based tablet or an iPad with the Google Play App installed.
