Book Description
POEMS OF THE BRIDGE presents incidents and insights from experiences that the author found enlightening during a lifetime of service as a pastor and family man. The use of poetry allows presentation in brief form and helps reveal the amazing acts of God in everyday life. A simple factual statement would only invite attempts to explain away the unexplainable. And so they are presented as faith experiences that simply arise among believers inspired by the promises of Christ and the Scriptures. The poems also question who this amazing martyr is who enters our confusing and modern world to bring compassion, understanding, and restore the bridge between divided couples, family members, and warring factions—even those we shall join again in a world beyond death. So much of what is precious has been neglected in search of money, belongings, and real estate. Shall we forget forever family solidarity, love, faith, those matters most rewarding and our constant source of joy? Or shall we turn from shopping, shallow entertainment, material obsession to rediscover our true identity? Shall we take time to consider those treasures offered to us forever? The strain of the world has a way of unveiling false assumptions and presenting the need for that final bridge. Our quest for a stable world falters daily. In an effort to achieve everything by human efforts, our age has given its respect to the clever, powerful, and worldly and put aside the lovely miracles of the God of compassion and eternal blessings. God still rewards those who continue in Christ’s faith and service. Yet in a broader spectrum POEMS OF THE BRIDGE rejects the prevailing philosophic viewpoint of positivism advocating that neither God nor the spiritual has any effect upon the course of history, the plight of the human race, or individual persons.

Book Description
An Army combat veteran’s personal account of his time in service during the Afghan War with an unconventional squad. In the birthplace of the Taliban, some men lose their lives, some lose their sanity, and others their humanity. They are the Hooligans . . . During the peak of the Afghanistan War, a group of soldiers is dropped by helicopter into the remote mountains outside of Kandahar City. Mismanaged and overlooked by command, the squad must rely on each other to survive. Their mission is to train and advise the Afghan National Police and help rebuild the country of Afghanistan. The Afghan Police station they are assigned to live in is dangerous health hazard. Many of the police officers they are supposed to train are Taliban sleeper agents or the family of Taliban fighters. The ones that aren’t are often addicted to drugs, illiterate, or smuggling child slaves. The squad’s leader is Slim, a staff sergeant in his late twenties with so many mental health issues that his insanity is his most dominant personality trait. An alcoholic with a penchant for violent outbursts against both his own soldiers and the Afghans, he is more comfortable at war than at home. Joseph Kassabian is the youngest and most junior fire team leader in the squad. He’s charged with leading a team of soldiers not even old enough to drink. He himself is only 21 years old. As a combat veteran from previous deployments with four years in the Army, he assumes he has seen it all. But he has no idea how bad things can get in war-torn Kandahar . . . Humorous and grim yet honest, The Hooligans of Kandahar is Jarhead and The Hurt Locker meets I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Winner of the 2017 eLit Awards Gold Medal in Current Events Praise for The Hooligans of Kandahar “A frighteningly realistic snapshot of the current war. Mr. Kassabian paints a deeply moving portrait of the struggles faced by men and women in uniform caused by our current foreign policy (or lack thereof), while bringing us along for a horrific, often . . . hilarious ride through the life of an American soldier.” —William Fulton, author of the critically acclaimed book The Blood of Patriots, Hill vets 100 awardee, SME/Consultant Domestic Terrorism

Book Description
A wicked adventure-or deadly...trollble For sixteen-year-old harpist prodigy Moira, the annual Dairy Princess event in Vanderby is just another lame publicity "op." Moira a dairy princess? Get real. Twelve girls have been selected to have their likeness carved in butter and displayed on the Trollholm Bridge. It's a Vanderby State Fair tradition that has been going on for, like, ever. As far as Moira is concerned, the sooner it's over with the butter-er-better. About the same time and not far away, three brothers-members of the sensationally popular teen boy band The Griffsons-are in the middle of a much needed road trip to relax from the pressures of their latest tour. In a flash, however, the kids are suddenly transported to a strange and mystical wilderness where they find themselves in the middle of a deadly tug-of-war struggle between a magical fox named Fossegrim and the monstrous troll Aenmarr of Austraegir. At the heart of the feud is a battle for possession of a mysterious magical fiddle--and an ancient compact between Trollholm and the outer world. Whatever. All Moira cares about is that eleven of her fellow princesses have been enchanted into a slumber and Moira needs to figure out a way to awaken them...and get home. Unfortunately for Moira and the Griffsons, nothing in Trollholm is as it seems. Finding a way out of Trollholm may be a lot more difficult than they think. Book Description
Seeking a job as a first-year teacher, Robin Robertson heads for an interview at the Westminster Rural Agricultural Schools in the spring of 1956. Here, Robin could teach and also coach varsity basketball and counsel students. Amid the pressures of beginning a new career, he starts to wonder whether a big-city person like himself can adapt adequately to the lifestyle of small-town, rural America. This story pictures a way of life that has vanished in all too many places. Many readers will relate to the challenges, conflicts, and rewards between students and an untried but idealistic teacher. Others will recall athletic contests won and lost and perhaps will remember counseling that went way beyond arranging school schedules. The author draws upon forty-three years of educational experience in high school and community college -- focusing on that memorable first year in front of a classroom, being in charge of the community's "Winter Entertainment Committee" (basketball games), and creating a newly mandated school guidance program.
