China Dream, Space Dream
Author: Kevin Pollpeter
Publisher: CreateSpace
ISBN: 9781508792871
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 148
Book Description
China's position in the world has been evolving. It seeks increased influence and independence from foreign powers with the ultimate goal of preserving China's sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and political system. Over the long term, China seeks to transform the international system to better suit its interests, but seeks to integrate itself into the existing international system over the short term with the goal of reshaping the Asia-Pacific political environment into one in which its interests must be given greater attention. China's pursuit of space power is intended to support this strategy. China views the development of space power as a necessary move for a country that wants to strengthen its national power. Indeed, China's goal is to become a space power on par with the United States and to foster a space industry that is the equal of those in the United States, Europe, and Russia. China takes a comprehensive, long-term approach to this goal that emphasizes the accrual of the military, economic, and political benefits space can provide.

Insects of the Los Angeles Basin
Author: Charles Leonard Hogue
Publisher: University of Washington Press
ISBN: 9780938644323
Category : Insects
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
"Southern California is home not only to the country's second largest metropolitan center but to an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 different kinds of insects. Insects of the Los Angeles Basin provides an introduction to more than 400 of the most conspicuous or curious of these invertebrate animals and to about 70 spiders, mites and ticks, and related forms. With color photographs or drawings of all but a few species, the text describes the size and most striking physical characteristics of adults and immature stages and gives information on locomotion and behavior, offensive and defensive maneuvers, mating rituals, food preferences, nests and traps, and noises and scents. The specific habitat and general geographic range of each insect are included, as are lore and superstition regarding some notorious species." "The author, Dr. Charles L. Hogue, has answered the questions that he was most often asked in his position as Curator of Entomology at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. The result is a highly readable text with an emphasis on the effects that insects have on the people who encounter them."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Fundamentals of Antimicrobial Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics
Author: Alexander A. Vinks
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0387756132
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 467
Book Description
Over the past decade, significant progress has been made in the theory and applications of pharmacodynamics of antimicrobial agents. On the basis of pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling concepts it has become possible to describe and predict the time course of antimicrobial effects under normal and pathophysiological conditions. The study of pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic relationships can be of considerable value in understanding drug action, defining optimal dosing regimens, and in making predictions under new or changing pre-clinical and clinical circumstances. Not surprisingly, pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling concepts are increasingly applied in both basic and clinical research as well as in drug development. The book will be designed as a reference on the application of pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic principles for the optimization of antimicrobial therapy, namely pharmacotherapy, and infectious diseases. The reader will be introduced to various aspects of the fundamentals of antimicrobial pharmacodynamics, the integration of pharmacokinetics with pharmacodynamics for all major classes of antibiotics, and the translation of in vitro and animal model data to basic research and clinical situations in humans.

Adaptive Systems with Reduced Models
Author: Petros A. Ioannou
Publisher: Springer
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 188
Book Description
This monograph analyzes some robustness properties of model reference schemes, the most widely studied class of adaptive systems. Model Reference Adaptive Systems (MRAS) evolved from the schemes proposed in the 1950's and 1960's. The breakthrough in the 1970's was the synthesis of adaptive schemes whose stability was guaranteed via the theorems of Lyapunov, Lur'e, Popov, Kalman, Yakubovich, et al. The development of stable adaptive schemes required great ingenuity and analytical skill. By the beginning of the 1980's several basic problems of identification and adaptive control for linear time invariant plants have been resolved under the matching assumption that the plant order is known and some additional restrictions on inputs and disturbances. The assumption that the plant order is not higher than the order of the model is behind the global character of the stability properties of all model reference adaptive schemes.
