Q, the First Writing about Jesus

Book Description
This book shows readers the formation of Q by exploring how the texts were subjected to redaction four times. As author Yoseop Ra demonstrates, the first redaction of Q conveys the words and deeds of the historical Jesus and then the rest of redactors imposed their own theological interpretation to the words and deeds of Jesus. His argument will provide readers with a fresh look on how the earliest "Jesus movement" was formed in the thirties of the first century CE. Q is a hypothetical document extracted from the common source between Matthew and Luke. Thus, it is not easy to distinguish the different layers of redaction embedded in Q. However, form critical, redaction critical, composition critical, and socio-historical approaches to it makes readers separate the four layers of redaction from Q. Each layer will show how the disciples of Jesus moved from the countryside to Jerusalem via some rural cities expanding their boundary.

Book Description
This volume is the second of two volumes representing leading themes of current research in nonlinear analysis and optimization. The articles are written by prominent researchers in these two areas and bring the readers, advanced graduate students and researchers alike, to the frontline of the vigorous research in important fields of mathematics. This volume contains articles on optimization. Topics covered include the calculus of variations, constrained optimization problems, mathematical economics, metric regularity, nonsmooth analysis, optimal control, subdifferential calculus, time scales and transportation traffic. The companion volume (Contemporary Mathematics, Volume 513) is devoted to nonlinear analysis. This book is co-published with Bar-Ilan University (Ramat-Gan, Israel). Table of Contents: J.-P. Aubin and S. Martin -- Travel time tubes regulating transportation traffic; R. Baier and E. Farkhi -- The directed subdifferential of DC functions; Z. Balanov, W. Krawcewicz, and H. Book Description
The Basic Practice of Statistics has become a bestselling textbook by focusing on how statistics are gathered, analyzed, and applied to real problems and situations—and by confronting student anxieties about the course’s relevance and difficulties head on. With David Moore’s pioneering "data analysis" approach (emphasizing statistical thinking over computation), engaging narrative and case studies, current problems and exercises, and an accessible level of mathematics, there is no more effective textbook for showing students what working statisticians do and what accurate interpretations of data can reveal about the world we live in. In the new edition, you will once again see how everything fits together. As always, Moore’s text offers balanced content, beginning with data analysis, then covering probability and inference in the context of statistics as a whole. It provides a wealth of opportunities for students to work with data from a wide range of disciplines and real-world settings, emphasizing the big ideas of statistics in the context of learning specific skills used by professional statisticians. Thoroughly updated throughout, the new edition offers new content, features, cases, data sources, and exercises, plus new media support for instructors and students—including the latest version of the widely-adopted StatsPortal. The full picture of the contemporary practice of statistics has never been so captivatingly presented to an uninitiated audience.

Book Description
Pure and Applied Mathematics, Volume 79: The Method of Summary Representation for Numerical Solution of Problems of Mathematical Physics presents the numerical solution of two-dimensional and three-dimensional boundary-value problems of mathematical physics. This book focuses on the second-order and fourth-order linear differential equations. Organized into two chapters, this volume begins with an overview of ordinary finite-difference equations and the general solutions of certain specific finite-difference equations. This text then examines the various methods of successive approximation that are used exclusively for solving finite-difference equations. This book discusses as well the established formula of summary representation for certain finite-difference operators that are associated with partial differential equations of mathematical physics. The final chapter deals with the formula of summary representation to enable the researcher to write the solution of the corresponding systems of linear algebraic equations in a simple form. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians and physicists.
