This volume--Munro's first monograph--affirms his status as a portraitist of the first rank.English by birth, Tom Munro moved to New York in 1990, embarking on his own career as a photographer in 1997, and achieving overnight success with his early editorial shoots for British Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. Over the last ten years, Munro has contributed to some of the world's most prestigious magazine publications including Vogue, Italian Vogue, L'Uomo Vogue, Russian Vogue, China Vogue and Details. Munro's dedication to his craft has attracted some of the fashion and beauty industries' most prestigious names, including Armani, Banana Republic, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Converse, Gap, Givenchy, Hugo Boss, Lacoste, L'Oreal, Moschino, as well as music icons such as Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Madonna. Book Description
For a medium so potentially "disembodied" and transparent, photography can offer a unique capacity to concretize place, especially when used in art installations in which photographs may be assembled from numerous sources and locations. Take Place investigates this particular implementation of photography through various scholarly disciplines--art history, photography theory, the history of architecture and social geography--and through creative disciplines such as installation art, performance, architecture and especially multimedia projects. Take Place offers points of departure for the study of photography as it is deployed within other media.

Book Description
Video art is to be seen ever more frequently outside the walls of art institutions in public space. Artists infi ltrate advertising screens on the street, project moving images onto edifices or enter into far-reaching collaborations with architects. At unexpected spots this video art shakes chance passers-by out of their reverie or merges effortlessly into the streetscape The images provide a critique of the advertising messages in the city, underscore the aesthetic of the built environment or make visible the skewed power relations on the street. Without exception, such video works establish a relationship with the architecture and the immediate surroundings. More than 80 video works, initiatives, organizations and artists from the Netherlands and abroad are described in this book. The moving images enrich, transform or mask the public space and inject the city with a healthy dose of imagination. In Pixels and Places, art historian Catrien Schreuder situates video art in public space within an art-historical and theoretical framework for the fi rst time.

Book Description
p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Arial} To tell the life story of Ed "Isky" Iskenderian is to tell the history of hot rodding in America. Ed was there from the very beginning. Born in 1921 to first-generation Armenian immigrants, Ed's first hobby was ham radio, but like many young men in the years before World War II, his interest turned to automobiles, especially hot rods. Ed had natural skills in metal working and machining that were developed in high school. He wanted to further develop those skills, so he joined the Air Corps to continue his education and flew with Air Transport Command. By the time Ed mustered out of the service, the California hot rod scene was in full bloom, with tens of thousands of vets who had the desire to make cars go fast. Isky: Ed Iskenderian and the History of Hot Rodding, tells the whole story, from his pre-war Lake Muroc and car club activities, his service in the military, starting a small business fabricating parts and making cams in the back of a rented shop, and then selling cams to other rodders. It covers how he grew a business from a single cam grinder and became the leading cam authority in barely 10 years. Ed was a gifted machinist, and he also had a natural knack for promotion. He purchased an ad in the second issue of Hot Rod magazine, sensing something big; his instincts, as always, were right. He was also the first to use T-shirts and uniforms as promotion. Not only was he an early pioneer in the industry for print adverting and catalogs, he was also among the first to understand the value of having successful race cars using his cams in their engines and wearing his decals on their fenders. The biggest names in the racing industry were running Isky cams, and Ed made sure the world knew it. Ed's company name went on to become one of the household names in the performance community. His continued success is an entertaining tale of mingling with industry icons, insight into the business of hot rodding, great stories of yesterday and today, and a life very well lived. You will enjoy the stories recorded here as much as Ed "Isky" Iskenderian seems to enjoy telling them.
