Performance Analysis of Parallel Applications for HPC
Author: Jidong Zhai
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9819943663
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 259
Book Description
This book presents a hybrid static-dynamic approach for efficient performance analysis of parallel applications on HPC systems. Performance analysis is essential to finding performance bottlenecks and understanding the performance behaviors of parallel applications on HPC systems. However, current performance analysis techniques usually incur significant overhead. Our book introduces a series of approaches for lightweight performance analysis. We combine static and dynamic analysis to reduce the overhead of performance analysis. Based on this hybrid static-dynamic approach, we then propose several innovative techniques for various performance analysis scenarios, including communication analysis, memory analysis, noise analysis, computation analysis, and scalability analysis. Through these specific performance analysis techniques, we convey to readers the idea of using static analysis to support dynamic analysis. To gain the most from the book, readers should have a basic grasp of parallel computing, computer architecture, and compilation techniques.

Continuous Software Engineering
Author: Jan Bosch
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 331911283X
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 230
Book Description
This book provides essential insights on the adoption of modern software engineering practices at large companies producing software-intensive systems, where hundreds or even thousands of engineers collaborate to deliver on new systems and new versions of already deployed ones. It is based on the findings collected and lessons learned at the Software Center (SC), a unique collaboration between research and industry, with Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg University and Malmö University as academic partners and Ericsson, AB Volvo, Volvo Car Corporation, Saab Electronic Defense Systems, Grundfos, Axis Communications, Jeppesen (Boeing) and Sony Mobile as industrial partners. The 17 chapters present the “Stairway to Heaven” model, which represents the typical evolution path companies move through as they develop and mature their software engineering capabilities. The chapters describe theoretical frameworks, conceptual models and, most importantly, the industrial experiences gained by the partner companies in applying novel software engineering techniques. The book’s structure consists of six parts. Part I describes the model in detail and presents an overview of lessons learned in the collaboration between industry and academia. Part II deals with the first step of the Stairway to Heaven, in which R&D adopts agile work practices. Part III of the book combines the next two phases, i.e., continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD), as they are closely intertwined. Part IV is concerned with the highest level, referred to as “R&D as an innovation system,” while Part V addresses a topic that is separate from the Stairway to Heaven and yet critically important in large organizations: organizational performance metrics that capture data, and visualizations of the status of software assets, defects and teams. Lastly, Part VI presents the perspectives of two of the SC partner companies. The book is intended for practitioners and professionals in the software-intensive systems industry, providing concrete models, frameworks and case studies that show the specific challenges that the partner companies encountered, their approaches to overcoming them, and the results. Researchers will gain valuable insights on the problems faced by large software companies, and on how to effectively tackle them in the context of successful cooperation projects.

Author: Veljko Milutinovic
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3030138038
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 318
Book Description
This useful text/reference describes the implementation of a varied selection of algorithms in the DataFlow paradigm, highlighting the exciting potential of DataFlow computing for applications in such areas as image understanding, biomedicine, physics simulation, and business. The mapping of additional algorithms onto the DataFlow architecture is also covered in the following Springer titles from the same team: DataFlow Supercomputing Essentials: Research, Development and Education, DataFlow Supercomputing Essentials: Algorithms, Applications and Implementations, and Guide to DataFlow Supercomputing. Topics and Features: introduces a novel method of graph partitioning for large graphs involving the construction of a skeleton graph; describes a cloud-supported web-based integrated development environment that can develop and run programs without DataFlow hardware owned by the user; showcases a new approach for the calculation of the extrema of functions in one dimension, by implementing the Golden Section Search algorithm; reviews algorithms for a DataFlow architecture that uses matrices and vectors as the underlying data structure; presents an algorithm for spherical code design, based on the variable repulsion force method; discusses the implementation of a face recognition application, using the DataFlow paradigm; proposes a method for region of interest-based image segmentation of mammogram images on high-performance reconfigurable DataFlow computers; surveys a diverse range of DataFlow applications in physics simulations, and investigates a DataFlow implementation of a Bitcoin mining algorithm. This unique volume will prove a valuable reference for researchers and programmers of DataFlow computing, and supercomputing in general. Graduate and advanced undergraduate students will also find that the book serves as an ideal supplementary text for courses on Data Mining, Microprocessor Systems, and VLSI Systems.
