Platons Dialog »Phaidon« entstand vermutlich zwischen 380 und 390 v. Chr. und gehört zu den bis heute wirkmächtigsten Texten der antiken Philosophie. Benannt ist der Dialog nach dem griechischen Philosophen Phaidon von Elis, der in der Rahmenhandlung von der Verurteilung und Hinrichtung seines Lehrers Sokrates wegen Religionsfrevels und Verführung der Jugend berichtet. Dialogisch wird dabei ein weites Spektrum von Themen behandelt, so die vorbildlich gelassene Haltung des Sokrates angesichts eines krassen Fehlurteils, die Einheit von Leben und Handeln sowie die Frage nach einer möglichen Existenz nach dem Tod.
