ZOETROPE
Author: Briji K T
Publisher: Ukiyoto Publishing
ISBN: 9364941764
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 106
Book Description
ZOETRPHE : Poetry is said to be the first form of literature. It unfolds feelings with a brief expression of words. I am presenting this Zoetrope to the readers in the interest of sharing my ardent feelings and vision when I traverse my surroundings. The scenario may be common, but the vision differs, and the pen inscribe it as on a stone tablet which will reincarnate when a reader touches it. All these poems are soliloquies when I close all windows to the outside world and open the door to my own shore. Mind is free to tread anywhere in seconds on a flying horse or magic carpet. There I am the princess, me the child, adolescent crazy lover, mother, philosopher and ..so on.! In my journey often I am afflicted..., inhibited... may feign or derail by delusion or contemplate. I wish earnestly for incarnation or live a life of others till my “Companion “ take me with him. I intent not to explain each and every poem as I present it to the readers. According to me, the half sung melody and the untold story pulls the chariot of a writer forward.!

Live Cinema and Its Techniques
Author: Francis Ford Coppola
Publisher: Liveright Publishing
ISBN: 1631493736
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 171
Book Description
From a master of cinema comes this “gold mine of a book . . . a rocket ride to the potential future” of filmmaking (Walter Murch). Celebrated as an “exhilarating account” of a revolutionary new medium (Booklist), Francis Ford Coppola’s indispensable guide to live cinema is a boon for moviegoers, film students, and teachers alike. As digital movie-making, like live sports, can now be performed by one director—or by a collaborative team online— it is only a matter of time before cinema auteurs will create “live” movies to be broadcast instantly in faraway theaters. “Peppered with brilliant personal observations” (Wendy Doniger), Live Cinema and Its Techniques offers a behind-the-scenes look at a consummate career: from Coppola’s formative boyhood obsession with live 1950s television shows and later attempts to imitate the spontaneity of live performance on set, the book usefully includes a guide to presenting state-of-the-art techniques on everything from rehearsals to equipment. A testament to Coppola’s prodigious enthusiasm for reinvigorating the form, Live Cinema is an indispensable guide that “reenergizes . . . the search for a new way of storytelling” (William Friedkin).

Playful Visions
Author: Meredith A. Bak
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 0262538717
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 297
Book Description
The kaleidoscope, the stereoscope, and other nineteenth-century optical toys analyzed as “new media” of their era, provoking anxieties similar to our own about children and screens. In the nineteenth century, the kaleidoscope, the thaumatrope, the zoetrope, the stereoscope, and other optical toys were standard accessories of a middle-class childhood, used both at home and at school. In Playful Visions, Meredith Bak argues that the optical toys of the nineteenth century were the “new media” of their era, teaching children to be discerning consumers of media—and also provoking anxieties similar to contemporary worries about children's screen time. Bak shows that optical toys—which produced visual effects ranging from a moving image to the illusion of depth—established and reinforced a new understanding of vision as an interpretive process. At the same time, the expansion of the middle class as well as education and labor reforms contributed to a new notion of childhood as a time of innocence and play. Modern media culture and the emergence of modern Western childhood are thus deeply interconnected. Drawing on extensive archival research, Bak discusses, among other things, the circulation of optical toys, and the wide visibility gained by their appearance as printed templates and textual descriptions in periodicals; expanding conceptions of literacy, which came to include visual acuity; and how optical play allowed children to exercise a sense of visual mastery. She examines optical toys alongside related visual technologies including chromolithography—which inspired both chromatic delight and chromophobia. Finally, considering the contemporary use of optical toys in advertising, education, and art, Bak analyzes the endurance of nineteenth-century visual paradigms.
