Book Description
Strategic MRO: A Roadmap for Transforming Assets into Competitive Advantage combines the concepts of enterprise asset management and the associated maintenance, repair, and operating/overhaul (MRO) materials supply chain. It introduces the breakthrough Demand Supply Compression (DSC) methodology, which guides an organization's thinking and doing as it seeks performance improvement. Like Lean, DSC provides a practical path forward by changing a mind frame and the way in which work is performed. Focused on achieving a future perfect and guided by meaningful principles, organizations will learn to apply compression strategies to drive out waste, time, and non-value adding activities from their strategic MRO practices. Strategic MRO utilizes case studies from a wide variety of businesses to demonstrate strategic MRO practices and implementation — It can be successfully applied to any business where maximizing return on assets is critical to success. This is much more than a maintenance management or supply chain book because it encompasses both asset management and supply chain practices — Strategic MRO will transform your assets into a strategic advantage.

Book Description
This book describes recent strategies and applications for extracting useful information from sensor data. For example, the methods presented by Roth and Levine are becoming widely accepted as the ‘best’ way to segment range images, and the neural network methods for Alpha-numeric character recognition, presented by K Yamada, are believed to be the best yet presented. An applied system to analyze the images of dental imprints presented by J Côté, et al. is one of several examples of image processing systems that have already been proven to be practical, and can serve as a model for the image processing system designer. Important aspects of the automation of processes are presented in a practical way which can provide immediate new capabilities in fields as diverse as biomedical image processing, document processing, industrial automation, understanding human perception, and the defence industries. The book is organized into sections describing Model Driven Feature Extraction, Data Driven Feature Extraction, Neural Networks, Model Building, and Applications.

Book Description
To be able to compete successfully both at national and international levels, production systems and equipment must perform at levels not even thinkable a decade ago. Requirements for increased product quality, reduced throughput time and enhanced operating effectiveness within a rapidly changing customer demand environment continue to demand a high maintenance performance. In some cases, maintenance is required to increase operational effectiveness and revenues and customer satisfaction while reducing capital, operating and support costs. This may be the largest challenge facing production enterprises these days. For this, maintenance strategy is required to be aligned with the production logistics and also to keep updated with the current best practices. Maintenance has become a multidisciplinary activity and one may come across situations in which maintenance is the responsibility of people whose training is not engineering. This handbook aims to assist at different levels of understanding whether the manager is an engineer, a production manager, an experienced maintenance practitioner or a beginner. Topics selected to be included in this handbook cover a wide range of issues in the area of maintenance management and engineering to cater for all those interested in maintenance whether practitioners or researchers. This handbook is divided into 6 parts and contains 26 chapters covering a wide range of topics related to maintenance management and engineering.

Book Description
Achieving a long-term acceptable level of manufacturing profitability through productivity requires the total commitment of management teams and all staff in any manufacturing company and beyond. Awareness and continuous improvement of manufacturing costs behind losses and waste is the core goal of the Manufacturing Cost Policy Deployment (MCPD). Achieving this goal will continually uncover the hidden reserves of profitability through a harmonious transformation of the manufacturing flow, coordinated by the continuous need to improve manufacturing costs. Setting annual targets and means for manufacturing costs improvement (more exactly for costs of losses and waste, and the exact fulfillment of these) requires mobilization of all people in the company to carry out systematic improvement activities (kaizen) and systemic improvement actions (kaikaku) of the processes of each product family cost. The MCPD system was born out of careful observation of the challenges, principles, and phenomena of manufacturing companies and the profound discussions with the people in these companies at all levels. Manufacturing Cost Policy Deployment (MCPD) Transformation: Uncovering Hidden Reserves of Profitability is organized in three sections. The first section presents the concept and the need for an MCPD system from a managerial perspective. In the second section, the transformation of manufacturing companies through the MCPD system is presented, more precisely the details of the initial steps of the implementation of the MCPD, the three phases and the seven steps of the MCPD, and the elements necessary for a constant and consistent application of the MCPD. In the last section, there are two examples of the MCPD implementation in two different types of industries, namely, manufacturing and assembly industry and process industry, and two case studies for the improvement of manufacturing costs for each (cost of equipment setup loss, using kaizenshiro; replacement of bottleneck equipment and associated costs of losses, using kaikaku; cost of quality losses with improving operators’ skills to sustain quality, using kaizen; and cost problem solving with the consumption of lubricants for one of the equipment, using A3).
