Book Description
Excerpt from The Wabash, Vol. 1 of 2: Or Adventures of an English Gentleman's Family in the Interior of America Travelling, as we did, with a large family of chil dren, we were, necessarily, brought into contact with much of which a Single male traveller bears and sees nothingz - I had to make thoughtful pro vision for our slow progress in the interior, where he would have sped fearlessly onward in his stage coach or steamer. This has enabled me to describe much that he never sees. His greater independence of motion may, indeed, have Oftener thrown him into companionship with those individual oddities and entertaining scamps whom we are, sometimes, told to look upon as types of the whole American people; but the incidents of family travel have afforded interests more deep, and, probably, more genuine. Book Description
From the days of French explorers and the establishment of Fort Harrison in 1811 to the rise of the "Pittsburgh of the West" and beyond, Terre Haute's history is a study in paradox. Home to prominent schools, railroads, and distilleries as well as social reformers, national figures, and corrupt politicians, the city that grew up along the Wabash suffered devastating setbacks but also soared to spectacular achievements.

Not illustrated. 1914 edition. Excerpt: ...he is a republican. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN STARBUCK. No history of Wabash county and its representative citizens would be complete were not mention made of B. F. Starbuck, affectionately known to his many friends as "Uncle Frank" Starbuck. He is a native of Indiana, having been born in Wayne county, about nine miles north of Richmond, December 6, 1846, and is a son of Andrew R. and Avis (Gardner) Starbuck, natives of North Carolina. Not long after their marriage the parents of Ur. Starbuck left their native Old North state, and drove overland in a wagon to Indiana, first settling in Wayne county, where they resided until 1847. 'In that year they again took their horses and drove through to Wabash county, settling on a farm in Waltz township, about four miles west of Somerset, which had not yet been entered from the Government, although later, when it was possible, it was secured by the father. About ten of the 160 acres had been cleared, and on this had been erected a small log cabin, which was the family home until some years later, when it was replaced by a more commodious and comfortable frame house. About the close of the Civil war Mr. Starbuck removed to Somerset in order that his children might receive better educational advantages, and during the two years that he made his home there served as assessor. They were the parents of eleven children, and two of their sons, James D. and Milton H., served as Union soldiers during the Civil War, as members of Company A, Eighty-ninth Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry. The early education of B. F. Starbuck was secured in the district schools of Waltz township, ...

Book Description
More and more seminaries, Christian universities, and Bible colleges are opting to train future ministers and missionaries online. What happens when the movement toward online education is shaped by pragmatic or financial concerns instead of Scripture and theology? Ministry training can be reduced to a mere transfer of information as institutions lose sight of their calling to shape the souls of God-called men and women in preparation for effective ministry. How might online ministry training look different if biblical and theological foundations were placed first? Teaching the World brings together educators from a wide range of backgrounds and from some of the largest providers of online theological education in the world. Together, they present a revolutionary new approach to online theological education, highly practical and yet thoroughly shaped by Scripture and theology.
