Excerpt from Volume of Proceedings of the Second International Congregational Council: Held in Tremont Temple, Boston, Mass., September 20-29, 1899 The report of the secretary, on pages nine and ten, may be referred to here as properly prefatory to this volume. It gives in some detail the official action through which the Council was convened in Boston. This great assembly had been anticipated with lively interest by the American churches, and especially by all who were charged, as their representatives, with the arrangements for it. Now that its record is complete, it is not too much to say that all favorable anticipations were far more than realized. The conspicuous success which attended its sessions, from first to last, calls for devout thanksgiving and praise to God. The occasions must have been very few when a convocation, continuing through eight work ing days. With two and three sessions daily, has been so thronged.
