Book Description
This book provides a practical guide to digital supply chain modelling, demonstrating an agile approach to how such models can be applied to any manufacturing company to build competitive advantage, facilitate new business models and drive towards Industry 4.0. The agile approach of the book provides an attractive alternative to the conventional country-by-country deployment of S/4 HANA and other relevant technologies. This book contains the expertise Gotz G. Wehberg has amassed over 20 years as a senior partner in a leading consulting company, working across industries and with globally recognized clients, advising on digitization. In it, he explains the scientific roots of digital supply chain management such as holism, cybernetics, self-organization and evolutionary theory to inform a deep understanding that can drive a supremely innovative strategy for Industry 4.0. Beyond strategy, Wehberg introduces the practical tools and technologies used in supply chain modelling, for example, sensors, big data, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, as well as a reference framework that categorizes the technologies, together with the latest concepts and tools, such as DDMRP, predictive S&OP, pattern recognition, autonomous logistics and Lean. This framework supports decision making for developing supply chains in an end-to-end and cross-functional fashion, providing clear guidance for executives and managers on how to design supply chains for the future.

Book Description
Sex, smoking, and social stratification are three very different social phenomena. And yet, argues sociologist Randall Collins, they and much else in our social lives are driven by a common force: interaction rituals. Interaction Ritual Chains is a major work of sociological theory that attempts to develop a "radical microsociology." It proposes that successful rituals create symbols of group membership and pump up individuals with emotional energy, while failed rituals drain emotional energy. Each person flows from situation to situation, drawn to those interactions where their cultural capital gives them the best emotional energy payoff. Thinking, too, can be explained by the internalization of conversations within the flow of situations; individual selves are thoroughly and continually social, constructed from the outside in. The first half of Interaction Ritual Chains is based on the classic analyses of Durkheim, Mead, and Goffman and draws on micro-sociological research on conversation, bodily rhythms, emotions, and intellectual creativity. The second half discusses how such activities as sex, smoking, and social stratification are shaped by interaction ritual chains. For example, the book addresses the emotional and symbolic nature of sexual exchanges of all sorts--from hand-holding to masturbation to sexual relationships with prostitutes--while describing the interaction rituals they involve. This book will appeal not only to psychologists, sociologists, and anthropologists, but to those in fields as diverse as human sexuality, religious studies, and literary theory.

Promised freedom upon the death of their owner, she and her sister, Ruth, in a cruel twist of fate become the property of a malicious New York City couple, the Locktons, who have no sympathy for the American Revolution and even less for Ruth and Isabel. When Isabel meets Curzon, a slave with ties to the Patriots, he encourages her to spy on her owners, who know details of British plans for invasion. She is reluctant at first, but when the unthinkable happens to Ruth, Isabel realizes her loyalty is available to the bidder who can provide her with freedom. Book Description
Image Processing, Analysis and Machine Vision represent an exciting part of modern cognitive and computer science. Following an explosion of inter est during the Seventies, the Eighties were characterized by the maturing of the field and the significant growth of active applications; Remote Sensing, Technical Diagnostics, Autonomous Vehicle Guidance and Medical Imaging are the most rapidly developing areas. This progress can be seen in an in creasing number of software and hardware products on the market as well as in a number of digital image processing and machine vision courses offered at universities world-wide. There are many texts available in the areas we cover - most (indeed, all of which we know) are referenced somewhere in this book. The subject suffers, however, from a shortage of texts at the 'elementary' level - that appropriate for undergraduates beginning or completing their studies of the topic, or for Master's students - and the very rapid developments that have taken and are still taking place, which quickly age some of the very good text books produced over the last decade or so. This book reflects the authors' experience in teaching one and two semester undergraduate and graduate courses in Digital Image Processing, Digital Image Analysis, Machine Vision, Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Robotics at their respective institutions.

Book Description
Perceptual Organization for Artificial Vision Systems is an edited collection of invited contributions based on papers presented at The Workshop on Perceptual Organization in Computer Vision, held in Corfu, Greece, in September 1999. The theme of the workshop was `Assessing the State of the Community and Charting New Research Directions.' Perceptual organization can be defined as the ability to impose structural regularity on sensory data, so as to group sensory primitives arising from a common underlying cause. This book explores new models, theories, and algorithms for perceptual organization. Perceptual Organization for Artificial Vision Systems includes contributions by the world's leading researchers in the field. It explores new models, theories, and algorithms for perceptual organization, as well as demonstrates the means for bringing research results and theoretical principles to fruition in the construction of computer vision systems. The focus of this collection is on the design of artificial vision systems. The chapters comprise contributions from researchers in both computer vision and human vision.
