Predictive ADMET
Author: Jianling Wang
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118783409
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 604
Book Description
This book helps readers integrate in silico, in vitro, and in vivo ADMET (absorption, distribution, metabolism, elimination and toxicity) and PK (pharmacokinetics) data with routine testing applications so that pharmaceutical scientists can diagnose ADMET problems and present appropriate recommendations to move drug discovery programs forward. The book introduces the current clinical practice for drug discovery and development along with the impact on early risk assessment; consolidates the tools and models to intelligently integrate existing in silico, in vitro and in vivo ADMET data; and demonstrates successful cases and lessons learned from real drug discovery and development. In short, it is a book aimed to provide a practical road map for drug discovery and development scientists to generate efficacious and safe drugs for unmet medical needs.

Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension
Author: Jochen Antel
Publisher: IOS Press
ISBN: 1607506017
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 116
Book Description
Pulmonary hypertension is a fatal lung and heart disease. It is characterized by shortness of breath, fatigue and fainting. It is exacerbated by an increase of the pressure in the lung vasculature through exercise, leading to progressive worsening of hemodynamics, right ventricular hypertrophy, right heart insufficiency and finally right heart failure. This book focuses on pulmonary arterial hypertension, a rare and progressive subgroup of pulmonary hypertension, which is today incurable and terminally faal. Classification of pulmonary arterial hypertension, its pathology, and strategies for future therapy will be of interest both to those suffering from the disease and those who take care of patients. This volume will also engage physicians and other scientists contributing to an understanding of the pathophysiology of pulmonary arterial hypertension and attempting to extend life of humans with pulmonary arterial hypertension by developing causal and curative therapies.

Cardiovascular Benefits of Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids
Author: B. Maisch
Publisher: IOS Press
ISBN: 1607502224
Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 196
Book Description
During the last decades progress has been made in the treatment of patients who survived myocardial infarction. Nevertheless, patients who survive an acute myocardial infarction are at high risk, with life expectancy half that of their peers who have not experienced similar events, and with increased risk for subsequent cardiovascular events and death. The risk of sudden death increases with severity of systolic dysfunction after myocardial infarction. In recent years, it has become clear that in addition to risk factors such as overweight, lack of exercise, smoking, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia, psychosocial factors play a key role for prognosis in patients with myocardial infarction. Therefore, there is high medical need for drugs which lower the incidence of sudden death and have an effect on other risk factors such as depression. OMACOR®, a pharmaceutical preparation of highly purified and concentrated Ω-3 polyunsaturated acids, may present such a drug. It lowers the incidence of sudden death in patients with myocardial infarction and decreases depression. This publication focuses on the effect of Ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on different risk factors in patients with cardiovascular disease. In addition, aspects of prevention of cardiovascular disease, risk factors and pharmacokinetics of Ω-3 fatty acids ethyl esters are considered.

Nuclear Receptors as Molecular Targets for Cardiometabolic and Central Nervous System Diseases
Author: Jean-Louis Junien
Publisher: IOS Press
ISBN: 1586038575
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 128
Book Description
"Nuclear receptors are a family of transcription factors consisting of 49 members identified in the human genome. Nuclear receptors regulate transcription by binding to response elements in the regulatory regions of target genes and thereby affect expression of genes involved in differentiation, growth, lipid homeostasis, inflammation and immunity. This volume reviews recent progress on nuclear receptors critically and will intrigue those pursuing interest in physiology, pathology and medicine."--BOOK JACKET.
