Book Description
This past year has been troubling for many of us who have had to deal with the ravages of the COVD-19 pandemic. We have had to deal with a loss of freedom, and some of us have lost jobs and income. And most tragically, there was the loss of family and friends who were fatal victims of this virus. The result of which is that we have been forced to make many difficult transitions in our lives. Life, as we have known it, has changed. But did you know that there is great power in transitions? These transitions are here to announce that we must set aside some old ways of thinking and doing and set our eyes on a new reality. So where do we capture this new vision? Where is life taking us? How do we read the road signs? In this book, Walking through Troubled Waters, we will explore the process of finding peace in the midst of our chaotic world. We will do so by probing the life of an ancient biblical character--King David. What does such an ancient figure have to teach us about living through troubled times? His story may well reflect our own experience. David's story is a drama of his life-changing transitions, which he had to overcome; and through these changes, he has much to teach us. Each time he found himself facing a new transition, this great king revealed a heart for God. And with this strong belief system, he was guided through some troubling times. Through faith, he transformed some simple words into a prayer to the Almighty. His faith in God was, therefore, the foundation to overcoming many of the challenges he had to face as a king and as a man. What can faith do? It can turn a boy into a warrior. And with a warrior's spirit, he had the strength to defeat those challenges before him. With faith, he learned to hear God's voice as he was guided through those troubled waters. Through faith, God taught him patience; and with patience, David learned that everything happened in God's perfect time. David had to face many of his enemies who tried to destroy him. He had to face his own sin and the rebellion in his family; and each time he triumphed. His final challenge was facing his own death. Did he find peace? I will let you be the judge. More importantly, can you, like King David, find peace in these troubling times?

Go Ahead! Walk on the Water
Author: Sonya Darcell Johnson
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN: 1639033750
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 148
Book Description
Is it possible to live a faith-based life? Yes. When we learn how to apply the word of God to our practical lives, then we can overcome all challenges. Find out why some believers are so peaceful and happy while in the midst of stormy trials. Go Ahead! Walk on the Water teaches us how to have victorious outcomes from situations that started as defeats. Human effort and divine intervention means victorious lives. Like the ocean, our lives are always moving. The gentle breeze creates the calm ripples of everyday duties that we easily accomplish. From those completed goals, we gain a sense of satisfaction as we readily embrace our good times of peaceful existence. Out of nowhere, the happiness and tranquility of an all-is-well lifestyle is abruptly cut short by the forceful winds of strife. We find ourselves in the middle of a storm with tsunami-like waves from an unexpected life event. Why did this have to happen now? Though we have overcome many obstacles, we fixate on stormy trials. Believing that our life is out of control, the giant waves of worry, anxiety, and panic take over. Fear of the unknown and limited options cause our faith to decrease, and we develop spiritual disorientation. Because our fears and doubts escalate, we become blinded by the threatening storms. We cannot see Jesus extending His hands or hear His command to “Go ahead, walk on the water.” Faith enables us to listen to His quiet words of comfort, “I am here with you in the midst of the raging storm.” God desires that we come to Him as our refuge in the time of trouble. As our relationship grows deeper with God, we will see His excellent plans and hear the voice of the Holy Spirit, guiding us victoriously through the storm. Sonya Darcell Johnson

Peder Victorious
Author: Ole Edvart R?lvaag
Publisher: U of Nebraska Press
ISBN: 9780803289062
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 352
Book Description
Peder Victorious, the sequel to Rölvaag's massive Giants in the Earth, continues the saga of the Norwegian settlers in the Dakotas. Here again, years later, are all the sturdy pioneers of the earlier novel, Rölvaag's "vikings of the prairie"—Per Hansa's Beret and their children, Syvert Tönseten and Kjersti, and Sörine. The great struggle against the land itself has been won. Now there is to be a second struggle, a struggle to adapt, to become Americans. The development of the Spring Creek settlement in these years is manifested in the rebellious growing up of Peder Victorious. Peder is a beautiful and moving novel of youth and youth's self-discovery. It is the story, too, of Beret's pain and dismay at the Americanization of her children, what Rölvaag described as the true tragedy of the immigrants, who made their children part of a world to which they themselves could never belong. Out of the inevitable conflict between the first-generation American and his still Norwegian mother, Rölvaag built a powerful novel of personal growth, guilt, and victory.

Walking Through Time
Author: Ruben Rios Cepero
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 1665551348
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 123
Book Description
Our human experience in time can be like watching a movie trailer but never actually getting to see the movie or looking away momentarily and realizing the movie was fast-forwarded to another scene. Every moment is perpetually flowing into and becoming the past; instantly enshrined as memory as soon as we experience it; never to be repeated. And though we have a temporary existence, we regularly muse about eternity, as if we have a primordial memory embedded deep in our psyche. We, somehow, sense that we are not meant to be prisoners of time. This collection of poetry and art illustrates glimpses of our mysterious journey through time and into eternity. It speaks of the joy, the sorrow, the fear and the faith we experience and it inspires optimism, hope and strength for our journey through time.
