Book Description
Vibrational energy transfer probabilities were measured for the H2-D2, H2-HCl, HF-HCN, DF-HCN, and H2-HCN systems from 220-450 K. Two-photon photodissociation of HgCl, HgBr, and HgI was observed to produce highly electronically excited (Hg2) atoms. Franck-Condon factors and r-centroids were calculated for the sum of B SQ-sum of X sq systems of HgCl, HgBr, and HgI. (Author).

Book Description
Applied Atomic Collision Physics, Volume 3: Gas Lasers describes the applications of atomic collision physics in the development of many types of gas lasers. Topics covered range from negative ion formation in gas lasers to high-pressure ion kinetics and relaxation of molecules exchanging vibrational energy. Ion-ion recombination in high-pressure plasmas is also discussed, along with electron-ion recombination in gas lasers and collision processes in chemical lasers. Comprised of 14 chapters, this volume begins with a historical summary of gas laser developments and an overview of the basic operating principles of major gas laser types. The discussion then turns to the mechanism of formation of negative ions in gas lasers; ion-ion recombination in high-pressure plasmas; electron-ion recombination in gas lasers; and collision processes in chemical lasers. Subsequent chapters focus on high-energy carbon dioxide laser amplifiers; spectroscopy and excited state chemistry of excimer lasers; rare-gas halide lasers; transient optical absorption in the ultraviolet; and pre-ionized self-sustained laser discharges. The final chapter considers the stability of excimer laser discharges. This book will be of interest to physicists and chemists.

Book Description
The report summarizes a research program on chemical lasers. Parametric studies of the HF, DF, HF-CO2, and DF-CO2 purely chemical lasers were accomplished with a prototype system to provide design data for CO2 lasers of multikilowatt size. The second phase of the grant resulted in accurate determinations of vibrational matrix elements and the dipole moment function for HF and DF molecules. Vibrational matrix elements were measured through the fifth overtone for both molecules. Additional investigations were launched at the end of the grant period directed toward the discovery of new chemical laser systems capable of operation at visible wavelengths. Book Description
Electronic-vibrational energy transfer studies are reported. IR lasers are pumped by these state specific transfer events, offering a large number of infrared laser transitions which were not available in the past. Cross sections for relevant processes were measured and the results interpreted in terms of the interaction potentials responsible for our observations. (Author).
