Book Description
Poetry 2Life is a compilation of poems written while observing and overcoming different phases of life. The poems were inspired by the pains faced while living and the spirit of determination to overcome them all. The poems were written from the perspective of different eyes: a child, a mother, a teacher, are just a few. This special collection of poetry is one that can be appreciated by all ages and hues. Each section of Poetry 2Life expresses the sentiments of three different phases of life: * Youth: Unlearned Innocence - a time where innocence leads to lessons learned. * Struggle: Pathway To Redemption - the experiences that can not be avoided by life yet give the stamina and wisdom to continue living * Love: Illuminated In The Dark - the beauty and the pain of life's most significant feeling. Poetry 2Life will be a reminder, that regardless of circumstances and locations, there is always a lesson to learn, a facet that can be appreciated after the storm. Allow the poetry in these pages to touch, inspire and motivate.

Book Description
In this elegant study, Walt Whitman's democratic, consensual idealism emerges for the first time as truly central to his poetic achievement. Though Whitman's democratic idealism has often been dismissed as a blindness to the political complexities of his day, Kerry C. Larson argues that the poet was in fact vitally engaged in the problems of preserving social continuity at a time (1855-60) when the specter of disunion and fractricidal war grew increasingly ominous. Whitman conceived his poems as vehicles for social integration whose entire aim was to dramatize the joining of the many and the one, speaker and listener, universal and particular without subordinating either term. For Whitman, the poet's role was to be "the better President," the figure in whose person all contending interests and competing factions would be resolved. The importance of "drama" in Larson's title is borne out in his argument that Whitman's most memorable poems depict the goal of consent as an active process, something to be achieved rather than merely affirmed. By way of making this drama vivid, these poems project a fictive audience or interlocutor which, in being invoked by the poet, furnishes him with a partner in the ongoing dialogue of voices Leaves of Grass both embodies and records.

Book Description
Poised between the land and the sea, enabling the dynamic flow of people and goods, while also figuratively representing a safe place of rest and refuge, the harbor constitutes a liminal, ambivalent space par excellence that has been central to the American imagination and history since the early colonial days. From the mythical tales of discovery and foundation to the endless flows of migrants, through the dark pages of the slave trade and the imperialistic dream of an ever-expanding nation, harbors, both as a trope and as physical spaces, powerfully signify the American experience. Today, at a time when ideas of border protection and policing gain political prominence in the U.S. and elsewhere, harbors and the constellation of meanings they subsume have become an even more crucial object of critical inquiry. In this volume, thirty-two American Studies scholars from around the world interrogate the manifold significance of ports and of the exchanges they enable or restrain, casting a decentered look onto the complex positioning of the United States in its political, ideological, and cultural relationships with the rest of the world. This collection thus offers a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary investigation of the U.S.A., engaging the most recent trends in American Studies and actively participating in the international and transnational reconfiguration of the field.
